Big Lead Sports Bar

There is no fashion statement as regional as the Pittsburgh Mustache. And after a simple posting last week of a Bill Cowher/Alby Oxenreiter 'stache-shot circa 1996, it was suggested that I gather together some of the more famous hairy upper lips in the city's sporting history for a gallery and debate over which is the best (even though we all know it's the Wannstache).

So without further adieu, I present to you "Pittsburgh's Finest Sports Staches". Feel free to add your own nominees in the comments section and we can update the post with pics as needed. Enjoy at your own risk.

Best. Post. Ever.

If you can work Barry Jones and Jason Thompson into the same post, you know you're doing something right.

I'd also like to say that Felix Fermin's droopy handlebar mustache is very underrated. Especially for a SS.

Great post!

They are all pretty good!

Dale Berra's mustache was underrated. In fact, in that picture you can almost count the grains of cocaine.

Contributing to the discussion, Chico Lind had a great mustache too.

Well...Ditka definitely wins for the best stache/short shorts/man-perm combo

Where's my main man Jeff King?!

I can't recall which pitcher it was, but I remember someone in the bullpen on the early 90s Pirates squad having an absolutely epic 'stache.

I wanna say maybe Bill Landrum? The pics I found of him don't show him with facial hair.

Beaver's Joe Namath?

You meant to say Beaver Falls right?

Some of the players for the Pittsburgh Passion have pretty nice staches.

AJ... I believe you're thinking of Ted Power. Couldn't find a good 'stache shot in Black and Gold. Here's a card from his St. Louie days:
