The News

--It was a bitter end to the Pitt Panthers' season on Saturday night, certainly raising the old question of "how much energy do they burn in the Big East Tournament?"
Today, the PG looks back on what was a fascinating season, noting that seniors Ronald Ramon and Keith Benjamin won 101 games, went to four consecutive NCAA tournaments and won a memorable Big East championship while at Pitt.

--At least the Pitt women are still alive, as they face off against Baylor in the second round.
--This Steelers controversy isn't going away anytime soon. However, Steigy says that there is no double standard.
--In the "last week's news" department, the Steelers will play the Bills in Toronto in August, continuing the trend of pro sports leagues exploiting Pittsburgh and Buffalo teams in unconventional settings to sell tickets.
--Trying to get a status report on Sidney Crosby from the Penguins? Good luck.

Another Nittany Lion Arrested

Unfortunately, it's true. Tyrell Sales, a starting LB from Butler, was arrested following a disturbance at the Station Square Margarita Mama's on St. Patrick's Day.

For Sales, this is not the first time he's been linked to an off-field incident. He was also one of the six Nittany Lions originally charged in connection with a brawl last April, although the charges were later withdrawn. That was the famous incident which inspired JoePa to institute the Sunday stadium-cleanings for his football team.
When combined with last week's news that WVU star running back Noel Devine and three other Mountaineers were arrested for battery charges, is it any wonder that the NFL is having problems with player discipline?

Penn State Produces At Least 6 NFL-Ready Players

Well, the hammer fell today on the six Penn State footballers who were involved in an off-campus incident earlier this month. The sextuplet includes star defensive back Justin King (the same Justin King who received 30 hand-written letters from PSU assistant Tom Bradley in one day), safety Anthony Scirrotto (the Big 10 leader in INTs last season), defensive tackle Christopher Baker, linebacker Jerome Hayes, cornerback Lydell Sargeant and linebacker Tyrell Sales.
Scirrotto and defensive tackle Christopher Baker face the most serious counts, including burglary, felony trespassing, harassment and simple assault. King and three other players face charges of criminal trespassing, harassment and disorderly conduct.
Not good news at all for those young men or Lions fans. The inevitable follow-up question will be JoePa's reaction and any discipline to come down from the program or the school. And before you ask, yes, it is too late for these guys to declare for the NFL draft tomorrow.
