I must admit, hearing that the Minnesota Vikings already gave up on Randy Moss after four games was pretty comical. For the 13 catches, 174 yards, 2 TDs, and one hilarious press conference that Moss generated, Brad Childress gifted old friend Bill Belichick with a third-round pick. And the worst part for Chilly was that the Vikings only won one of those four games. But don't laugh too hard at Minnesota's generous ways with valuable draft picks. Something very similar happened in our own backyard yesterday.
Eli Manning won't be playing tonight for the New York Giants, but another celebrated QB from the Class of 2004 will be starting in this evening's Steelers-G Men preseason contest.
Wondering who the Steelers will start at QB when the Detroit Lions invade Heinz Field on Saturday night? You're not alone, and that's just how Mike Tomlin likes it.
Lots to cover after the jump, with the latest Steeler camp links, one former Steeler reaching a deal elsewhere, a Pitt-in-Ireland update, and eye-popping numbers from our Battlin' Bucs...
The Steelers now have a second new player in the fold for 2010, and his name is Jason Worilds, an outside linebacker from Virginia Tech who they selected 52nd overall.
The pick, announced by Steeler great Rod Woodson, was a bit of a surprise, considering it doesn't fill an immediate need; but the selection does give some much-needed depth at the position. That being said, the Steelers passed on several players that could've been a nice fit, such as Notre Dame WR Golden Tate (who went to Seattle at #60) and Alabama DT Terrence Cody, who went to Baltimore at #57.
The early word is that Worilds is an unfinished product who could've benefited from another year in school, yet is still considered a good fit for the Steelers. Worilds had 46 tackles and four sacks for the Hokies in 2009, and was named second-team All-ACC.
NFL.com says:
"Pick Analysis: The Steelers have a knack for uncovering superb pass rushers, and Jason Worilds might be the next one to develop into an all-star player on the edge. The Virginia Tech star has exceptional speed and quickness, and his relentless motor leads to disruptive plays. Given the Steelers' reputation for developing young rushers, Worilds could blossom into a star in the Steel City in a few years."
