Wiz Khalifa Covers Rolling Stone

Pittsburgh's favorite rapper, Steeler-loving Wiz Khalifa, continued to ride his recent tsunami of success, getting his second "Rookie of the Year"-themed cover in the last four months in the form of the latest issue of Rolling Stone. He was also named ROY by The Source back in November and celebrated with a simliarly memorable cover:

"I got a lot of work to do," Wiz told MTV News shortly before receiving the Rolling Stone nod. "I've done a lot of work to get where I'm at, but I have to keep working. And, hopefully, I'll be the best artist of the year."

Khalifa's Pittsburgh-centric "Black and Yellow" hit #1 earlier this year, and currently resides at #10 on the Billboard charts. His newest song, "Roll Up," is at #76 on this week's chart, and his album, Rolling Papers, will be released on March 29. Khalifa also co-stars with kindred spirit Snoop Dogg in a movie, High School, that will be out later this year. Of his co-star, Mr. Dogg had this to say, which I would assume qualifies as the highest compliment:

"I never knew him, but my oldest son used to play his music all throughout his house, and I'd be like, 'Who is this mother----er he is playing?' " Snoop said. "I'll be going downstairs, and I'd hear it in the bathroom downstairs and then I'd hear it upstairs. I'm like, 'Man, who is this?' Then I got hip to him and I started peepin' him and watching him and listening, and I'm like, 'Man, this guy is fly.' "

who cares? and i don't think this guy is "fly". the song black and yellow might be the most non-musical "song" ever written right behind kim kardashian's new "song".

1) This: " "I never knew him, but my oldest son used to play his music all throughout his house, and I'd be like, 'Who is this mother----er he is playing?' " Snoop said. "I'll be going downstairs, and I'd hear it in the bathroom downstairs and then I'd hear it upstairs. I'm like, 'Man, who is this?' Then I got hip to him and I started peepin' him and watching him and listening, and I'm like, 'Man, this guy is fly.' " "

Is a glittering jewel of colossal stupidity.

2) I thought this was a blog about Pittsburgh sports.

3) I'm dangerously close to hitting the "unsubscribe button".

"Oh no! Not a post about a hip hop artist who's tangentially related to Pittsburgh sports! I do believe I have the vapors..."

Relax, guys. Wiz Khalifa has been one of Pittsburgh's most prominent fans this year, including producing a national #1 song that doubles as the current Steelers anthem. I don't particularly love the song, but I like the idea. He reps the city and sports teams just about everywhere he goes, so this is certainly newsworthy on a Pittsburgh sports blog.

Besides, is this post causing us to miss out on any Steelers/Penguins/Pirates/Panthers/Nittany Lions news today? Didn't think so.

"This post is a about a rapper.

I do not like hip hop.

I am going to complain."

Then I suppose you enjoy the embarrassment of Donnie Iris being your city's most prominent musical import....

Have to run these posts through a test group first justtttt to make sure everybody agrees with Snoop Dogg that the subject in question is "fly". Come on, man!

I'm dangerously close to going on with my day.

I live out of town and check this site regularly for my favorite sports teams but sometimes its nice to hear about other Burgh related stuff. Its a way better news source than the PG anyway. Im also proud of a Pittsburgh kid doing well so I say keep up the Wiz posts.

Like Hip Hop or not, he is one of the hottest music stars in the world right now. How about being proud of a kid that is from and represents Pittsburgh proudly.

BS! It's a sports blog. Not only does black and yellow suck, i'm not even sure if the reference to black and gold has anything to do with Pittsburgh athletics.

And I stand by conviction that you might as well listen to kim k. It's not like it's a classical literary or musical piece. The song might as well be about a certain colored cupcake.

Lamarr Woodley makes a cameo in the music video and there are people waving Terrible Towels in the background. Like the song or hate it, it's pretty safe to say that "Black and Yellow" acknowledges Pittsburgh sports.

Yes! The king of Retard Rap tangentially acknowledges Pittsburgh between references to his jewelry and his bitches.

The tagline of this website is "Sports and ENTERTAINMENT with a Pittsburgh twist". It's a lot harder to read and comment on an article than to just skip it.

Black and Yellow are the city's colors.

It's a song about how he reps Pittsburgh by having a black and yellow car, jewelry, clothes, etc etc.

He performed it before the AFC championship game for god's sake.

He also has a song called "Pittsburgh sound".

You just don't like hip hop and would rather the city be represented by a country singer or something. That's find, but just admit it.
