News and Notes

Your Pittsburgh news and notes for Wednesday:

SIX PITT PANTHERS
were invited to the NFL scouting combine, including wide receiver Jon Baldwin, fullback Henry Hynoski, running back Dion Lewis, offensive lineman Jason Pinkston, defensive end Greg Romeus and defensive end Jabaal Sheard. That sure is a lot of quality, NFL-ready players for a team that couldn't win the Big East. [PittsburghPanthers.com]

PRO FOOTBALL WEEKLY predicted the Hall of Fame paths of many an NFL player recently, and three Steelers (Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Troy Polamalu) landed in the "On Their Way" category. Meanwhile, James Farrior unsurprisingly landed in the "Don't Hold Your Breath" group, while they "Need More Data" on James Harrison. Of course, none of this will matter anyway when corrupt HOF voters conspire to push their own agendas, as I speak in my Jason Whitlock voice. [PFW]

CAM SADDLER, always a good quote, appeared on The Fan yesterday and hinted that Pitt may be doing some tinkering with uniforms next season. “Y’all gonna be excited when we step on the field, and y’all see them Pitt Panthers runnin’ out and we gonna be out there like Oregon runnin’ around with all these different colors on and all that," said the Gateway HS product who likes to ruin surprises. DICK GROAT, a former Pirate and a longtime fixture on the Pitt basketball radio broadcasts, was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame this week, which is pretty impressive given that he only played two years of baseball at Duke. Other inductees in the class include Terry Francona (Arizona), Danny Goodwin (Southern), Oddibe McDowell (Arizona State) and Tim Wallach (Cal State Fullerton), as well as former coaches Ralph Waldo Emerson Jones (Grambling State) and Bill Wilhelm (Clemson). SHANE BLACK is slated to take over for Jon Favreau as the director of Iron Man 3, currently scheduled for release on May 3, 2013. And this is noteworthy because Black was born and raised in Pittsburgh, which is slowly but surely taking over Hollywood. [MonstersandCritics.com, Wikipedia]

I know I never really contributed much here, but I can't stand all the changes. The Pop-ups are not good to have on the ol' work computer.

I wish your site nothing but success and hope you do make as much money as possible, but you have lost a daily reader...again, not that anything I ever contributed was stellar.

HAIL PITT!!!!!!
