Best of the Web: The Top 20 Links of the Week

It's link time, Yinzers. And we'll recover from a crushing Super Bowl loss with...link after link of injured or disciplined Penguins missing from the lineup for varying periods of time! Great!

Other than that, we've got the Steelers' first loss of the offseason, a famous beard meeting its demise, a guess on who gets the Steelers' franchise tag, an update on the Rinku and Dinesh movie, a new breakfast treat from a friendly Penguin, multiple surgeries for a Steeler, a ridiculous February defeat for the Pirates, and much, much more. As always, my message is the same: enjoy responsibly. Don't link and drive.

No mention of an NFL QB previously arrested on rape charges being linked to having sex with a high school student?

I can't believe THAT didn't make TMZ. Obviously, that is not proper representation of the shield. Especially taking her across state lines so it's legal!

Chan-ho Park signed with a team in Japan. I know there was probably no way Pittsburgh would t ry and sign him, but he's been pretty effective over the last few years, and you'd think he'd be at least a cheaper lateral move over a 1-11 pitcher getting a 1.6 million dollar pay raise.

@ BwBw - Hahaha, that QB must play for some small market team or something that it's not nation news! It was legal & consentual, but that doesn't make it any less creepy!

@ Brian - you're not suggesting Chan-Diarrhea Park over Ohlie in the starting rotation are you? Ohlie had a tuuurrrible record, yes. However, his 4.07 ERA is second only to James McD on the Pirates staff. With a team as terrible as the buccos, you can't just look at a pitcher's W/L to determine his worth. That '1-11 pitcher' is probably the 2nd best starter on the team (3.92 ERA, 11-10 last season), i say 'probably' because he might be the best. James McD needs to prove last season wasn't a fluke first. And Ohlie's far far better than an aging player who was mediocre during his prime. Granted, Ross is just mediocre now, but he's also JUST ENTERING his prime yrs. I think Ohlie deserves every bit of that raise. You must be high.

If you disagree with Cookie's suspension... then you're a flat out HOMER! A dirty hit by a repeat offender = suspension every time (unless he woulda hit Roethlisberger somehow [zing])

They should've set up Malkin/Crosby's contracts so that only one of them would get $8.7M each season. And the other's would be pro-rated on how his stats match up to the others. Hahaha, terrible idea i know, but humor me... I Crosby is worth $8.7M this season, what's Malk been worth? Maybe it's best to measure his worth by how many Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers he could buy with it?

Somehow i'm not hurt by the Stillers losing their secondary coach.

Good, there SHOULD be a class action law suit for that SB seating debacle! Any amount of money doesn't fix that level of idiocy/indifference towards the effects on your fanbase.

Yeah, i think the players could afford Cobra for a few months. That being said, i feel for Aaron Smith and his son's needs.

Well, legality has nothing to do with anything on the Goodell Wheel of Justice.

I just don't think I can ever view the NFL shield with the same valor knowing that one of it's premier franchises is led by a QB who dates high school girls.

HomeRunFromBehindTheMeatballs said...

Very good point! Legality and consistency have somewhere between jack and sh*t to do with Baddell's distinct brand of 'justice'.

Hell, forget the NFL... what about society? NO ONE is making a big deal about this!!! 'Meh, she's legal in that state' ... Who cares? It's a grown man having relations with a girl. That will never sit right with me. If they met when she was 24 & he was 31, i'd view it differently... as anyone 24 or older knows... there's an a$$load of difference between 17 & 24.

Also, i hate to say it, but Fanhouse had an excellent article on this matter written by the same clown who trashed the terrible towel:

http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2011/02/09/of-mark-sanchez-and-the-pratfalls-of-teenaged-romance/

"Ultimately, there may well have been a predator in the case of the pro quarterback and his high school paramour.

The shocking part? The predator may well have been the teenage girl."

:-/ The info in that article paints this 'little girl' in a whole new light for me. But still doesn't remove Sanchez from any moral failings.

BurressWithButterflywings said...

Well, whether the girl pursued Sanchez or not, he is still the adult in the situation. At least legally........ cue the rimshot!

I just think it's a bit hypocritical for the media to say this is not an issue. I know that this is something that has been largely ignored recently, so I'll put it out there: MARK SANCHEZ HAS BEEN ARRESTED ON RAPE CHARGES BEFORE.

How many rape jokes did you see floating around during the NBA finals last year? The answer is none.

During the Super Bowl it was a constant stream of "Roethlisberger knows what it feels like to be raped now hurr hurr."

Whatever.
