The Hot Button

It's time for another round of voting or dying (or possibly dying alive) with this week's edition of The Hot Button.

Topics to ponder include Michael Jordan's comments on the Miami alliance, Paul Maholm's future, Jabaal Sheard's weekend, Terrell Owens and the Steelers, and Dwyane Wade's poorly-crafted statements on the 2010-11 Heat season. It's a virtual cornucopia of controversy!

I understand that Jordan had Pippen as a running mate, I loved Pippen. I also thought that Jordan made him, and the other players around him, better and that was as big a factor as any in Chicago's RIDICULOUS success in the 90's.

If Jordan was going to be part of an assembly of elite players, they were going to have to come to him and not the other way around.

I don't think LeBron did anything technically wrong, certainly not contractually, but he was crass in his handling of the situation.

Jordan wasn't the only person to express belief that, in so many words, he thought LeBron was more of a competitor than to go into another big dog's yard to look for scraps.

As for Wade's comments, maybe that was not the best analogy, but his point that losing a few games in a row isn't a national disaster was well taken. I don't really see where he needed to apologize because he didn't disparage any victims or minimize the atrocity in any way.

There must be some ravens or browns fans voting for TO to come to the steelers. I wouldn't want this guy when he was in his prime. And now that he's showing his age & all washed up, it really makes this a no brainer... at the time of my vote, there were 17% for yes. ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!

And i'm not saying because he doesn't fit the "steelers' way", because that's total BS. We employ jerks too. He has NOTHING to offer any NFL team at this point in his career... well, maybe the Cleveland Steamers could use him?

MJ got his jab in... along the lines of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" haha

Dwyane Wade is a complete & total JACKASS. I'm surprised, but not surprised by the voting so far as most Pittsburghers were likely not personally effected by the 9/11 attacks. But this will be an untouchable subject for a long time. AND RIGHTFULLY SO.

Few points,

Pippen or no, that was Jordan's team. He was the leader. Lebron won't be the leader in Miami, and Wade is MUCH closer to Lebron's talent level than Pippen was to Jordan's.

As for Wade's comments, he was basically saying that the Heat losing a basketball game is not as big of a deal as something like 9-11 was, despite the fact that the press will blow it out of proportion...

...ummm, isn't that true? Wasn't he basically just criticizing the media for making sports a bigger deal than they are?

He has nothing to apologize for IMO.

LeBron James is going to be the B player in Miami. He already deferred to Wade once and that trend will continue.

Pippen would not have been named to the NBA All-Time Top 50 if he didn't play with Jordan.

By making his "Decision," Lebron can now never be considered on the same level as Jordan, Magic, Bird, or even Kobe.

Sheard - Indefinite suspension seems like the right move for now, but unless some serious details come out I'd probably end up dismissing him.

Owens - Why? Does he really have anything to offer at this stage of his career? Is he really even a significant upgrade over Antwaan Randle El at this point?

Maholm - As always, it depends on the return. I doubt we get much back for him if we move him. He's our best pitcher, sure, but that doesn't mean he's very good. He's a #4 or #5 starter on a playoff team. If you think the return is better than Maholm, yeah, you make the trade.
