TODAY'S HEADLINES

Paul Zeise needs to move on: I know I'm only a lowly blogger, but someone more credible than I needs to inform Paul that he keeps posting these cheap shots on the Redshirt Diaries BLOG. [PG]

Mondesi's House, unofficial home of bizarre Pittsburgh-related photos: A guy wore a pillbox Pirate hat to media day yesterday, and my inbox filled up as if the Penguins just traded Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Which they didn't, by the way. Just wanted to clarify that before I get accused of starting rumors.

Big Ben drops cash, makes news: My favorite QB dropped a $10 bill outside a Chicago club on Friday night and didn't bother to pick it up. Hey, at least he's not using a $100 as a napkin. [NY Post]

Ray Whitney update: The veteran winger from Carolina is the apple of many Pens' fans' eyes as the trade deadline approaches, but the ever-pesky no-trade clause could prove to be a thorn in the side of a deal. Maybe we can try and lure Marian Hossa back as a Plan B. [Puck Daddy]

Mark Madden to Mario: Save your bucks, not the Bucs: Interesting take on the Bucco ownership rumors from Mr. Madden this morning, where he warns Le Magnifique to be careful what he wishes for. Very good read. [Timesonline.com]

Who is Paul Zeise? I read the Trib so he must write for the Post-Gazette or he stinks so bad I never noticed him.

Zeise is too dumb to realize that's probably not even how the whole Pitt rumor went down. Some loser wanted to boost his hit total and made something up. Whoopee. He's the asshole. Not the blogging community.

And you know what? Blogs aren't even all the same. The ones that try to break news are the ones effing it up for the rest of us.

You don't see this site, or BSD, or the Pitt Blather breaking any stories, you just see a bend on the day's news reported by people like Zeise.

The man should be happy. He got way more hits with Mondesi's House and BSD linking to him than if the blogs didn't exist.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but could the new sports complex being built behind Trees Hall have anything to do with a Big 10 bid?

Adam said...

I would hope expanding Pitt's athletic program's would be enough incentive.

Zeise needs to go chill out and look at some Erin Andrews pics or something......oh wait, he doesn't know who she is.

Ray Whitney (like most players) would waive his no-trade clause faster than you can say high-sticking, if offered a chance to go from a busted team like Carolina to a cup contender like Pittsburgh, especially if he gets to play with a Malkin or Crosby and stay in the East. Players generally hate moving across the country. problem is, everyone's going to have Whitney near the top of their list and some of those teams have more $$ or options available to get him.

@Steve,

Adam is correct about the incentive to expand the facilities. That is, unless Pitt was planning on moving to the Big Ten in the mid-90's when they made the decision to demolish Pitt Stadium to build the Pete.

They were planning on adding new facilities for some of the Olympic sports like soccer and track for years, budgeting it when they could. The largess of Mr. and Mrs. Petersen was just fortuitous timing.

What news has BSD broken?

Drum major pulled his groin?

Adam said...

You've missed my point completely.

The purpose of amateur blogs isn't to break ANY news, it's to compile it and put it together. This blog, BSD, the Pitt Blather, MGoBlog, etc., understand this. The folks at the Bleecher Report and Fanhouse don't and that's what gives bloggers a bad name.

BURGH08 said...

That's your point, but it's not accurate.

There are plenty of blogs that don't compile news, and is just a sounding board for their own opinions, etc. Others compile what they either THINK is news, or just give a portion of it to form their own opinion.

That's not to say they are right or wrong for doing so, but I it's like anything else. There are good ones, and ones that suck, and ones that are in the middle as I mentioned before.

Jeff Pearlman has a blog, is supposed to be a professional sports writer, and would make BSD look like Deadspin.

It's all subjective I guess. To each their own to hash is out, but painting with a broad brush like Pomp and Ziese deserve the wrath of all IMO.
