TODAY'S HEADLINES

What a game: The final basketball game at Mellon Arena was exciting, if nothing else, with Pitt edging Duquesne 67-58 in double overtime. The 6-1 Panthers made their biggest comeback in school history, erasing a 16-point second half deficit in downing the 5-2 Dukes.

Pitt was led by Ashton Gibbs with 15 points, although he was only 3-for-15 on the night. Bill Clark led Duquesne with 23.

Pitt holds a 47-31 edge in the series, and will be back in action tomorrow night against New Hampshire at The Pete. [PG]

Ryan Doumit, Toronto Blue Jay? The Jays are eyeing the oft-injured Bucco catcher to replace the soon-to-be departed Rod Barajas. Doumit hit .250 with 10 HR in 280 at-bats last season for the Pirates. [TSN]

Putz to Pirates? MLB Trade Rumors has a variety of free agent candidates linked to the Buccos, including Mets reliever JJ Putz, Royals reliever Jamey Wright, and Giants lefty Noah Lowry. Putz and Lowry are both coming off of injuries, and Wright has a career ERA of 5.03 in 14 seasons. Sounds about right. [MLB Trade Rumors]

Pens-Avs tonight at the Igloo: The 15-8-5 Colorado Avalanche are in fourth place in the Western Conference and invade Mellon arena for a 7:30 meeting with the world champs.

Avs goalie Craig Anderson suffered what appeared to be a head injury against Florida last night, and may or may not play. Maybe we should ask Hines Ward what he thinks. [Empty Netters]

Bizarre PG headline of the day: "Wal-Mart greeter, 72, punched in face". It happened in North Versailles, and the puncher, 55-year-old Paul Washington, has been arrested. [PG]
