STEELERS SIGN ALEX STEPANOVICH

Needing some depth on the offensive line, the Steelers signed center Alex Stepanovich, a five-year NFL vet who spent last season with Atlanta. Stepanovich was a fourth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2004, where he played until 2006. When he was not tendered by the Cardinals, he signed a one-year deal with Cincinnati in 2007. From there, he went to Atlanta in 2008. In short, he's the definition of the word "journeyman".

In his NFL career, he's played in 46 games, starting 34. He stands 6'4", 296 pounds, and played college ball at THE Ohio State University. Which means he'll instantly have at least one friend in the locker room in Santonio Holmes.

To make room for Stepanovich, the Steelers released DL Jordan Reffett, who has been in training camp the past two seasons and was on the Steeler practice squad for two weeks in 2008.
