I realize the mere mention of the Pitt Panthers football team is tempting the Penn State faction of our audience to lob some verbal grenades back and forth, but onward we march. Today was media day for the Panthers, which means the Wannstache can burn off some of his bottled-up Pitt enthusiasm that's been building the entire offseason. And burn it he did, according to his tweets.
But the big news is that the Panthers will sport new threads for 2009 home games. They do not feature the old-school script logos that people love so, which means many Panther fans will continue to be frustrated. They will, however, be donning gold pants, a dark blue jersey with "PITT" in small block letters and a Nike swoosh logo on the front above each player's number. Say what you want, but Dan Marino's uniform never had a swoosh, which usually equates to a minimum of 3-5 additional wins per season.

I like them, to be perfectly honest. More of a classic look but with modern flare. I'm sure the Penn St. fans will have some smart ass comment anyway.
i'm a penn state fan, but these new uniforms arent bad. i wish pitt would go back to the yellow & blue from the 70's & 80's.

Nike typically blows, but I actually like these unis.
I'm also a Penn State and I also like the new uniforms. Didn't Pitt previously partner with Adidas?
Considering it's Nike, it could have been worse...just look at Oregon.
I'm also a Penn State fan and I like these jerseys. When it comes to college football jerseys, less is more. Straight-up block letters, a good color-matching scheme, solid work overall.
Do the pants have 3 lines (white inside of 2 blue) or just 1 (blue line) down the side? It's hard to tell from the picture.
i think they look just like Univ. of Washington's uni's. Lets see what the helmet looks like though...
What about us WVU folk? As much as I hate Pitt, the new unis aren't bad, although they're not that different. At least the PITT is back on the side of the helmet (for the past four years) rather than that ugly panther. Now when are they gonna bring back the script letters?

They are fine I guess. I guess for the most part most college teams do some tinkering, but just stick with something.
I also never understood the love affair with 'Pitt Script'. Hey, if they go back to it or not, I won't lose a wink of sleep.
That said, the 'uniform of Dorsett/Green/Marino' was also the uniform of Sal Genilla, Matt Lytle, and 'Back to the Future' Majors II.
Just win in them.
O, I wouldn't have noticed. I just thought Pitt changed uniforms every season, like some kind of ritual.
In uniform related conversation, I have a dilemma. I'm putting some stuff up on eBay, and one of the items I'm considering parting with is my 1991-style Mario Lemieux jersey. Authentic. I bought it with my first ever paycheck. Only thing is, it's really big and baggy and looks a little goofy on me. AND, for my last birthday I got a powder blue MAF, which fits like a glove and looks awesome. Worth getting rid of the 66 for some extra walkin around money, or as a card-carrying yinzer Pens fan, am I obligated to keep the jersey no matter what?
Penn State fan here and the new Pitt uniforms are ok. I wish they would go back to the 70s & 80s uniforms though. Is the helmet the same as last year?
Seriously about the Pitt uniforms.
I don't have a problem with them, but I didn't have a problem with the old ones either, nor did I have a problems with the uniforms before that. And that's my point. Just pick something ya'll like and go with it. Quit having these annual uniform alterations.
P.S. That new Panther logo does suck though. It looks like a dog.
They should have to win a bowl game to get new uniforms.
Papa Eo don't sell the 66. If you don't want to wear it anymore have it framed or something like that. With the 1st paycheck story you can't get rid of it. It would give the story a sad ending.
@ Adam: did you mean pick something 'yinz' like?
Yes, I think that new logo looks like a seal.
These new uni's are pretty simple and sharp, but i would also prefer the 70's/80's edition.
Papa: I would sell the powder blue instead. Horrible.
Adam: Your 'problems' have been exposed well before a Pitt uni change.
I dig the new unis and I would actually prefer that Pitt stays with the current dark blue look, but perhaps return to the script logo. I guess I'm selfish but they began wearing that color scheme my freshman year on campus and I've grown to like supporting and wearing those colors.
Bring back the script already!!!
And to the folks commenting about the new logo that looked horrible...they did away with that as soon as Steve came back as AD and the bolder Panther logo is still the official one. But I agree, that thing was hideous while it lasted.
They did away with the old helmet logo they used after the initial color scheme change, but a new Panther logo still exists under the latest Pederson regime. They just don't use it on the helmet anymore.
I think it looks like an evil seal.

Different unis, same $#*+ team as long as Dumbschmuck patrols the sidelines.
I'm telling you that "seal" logo has been done away with. They brought back the other Panther that was brought in with the initial change because that was Steve's baby and he wanted it to be the logo. Just look at the Football and B-ball games, its the non-seal looking panther that is used.
Ok im a Penn State fan and a Pitt fan. The script bein gone sucks but ok as long as the dont mess wit the panther anymore. I love Nike apparel and wear Nike every week while i play. Jerseys and Pants r great same wit their compression gear. Nike is very creative and stuck wit the plain look of Pitt, Love em. Oregon's jerseys r pretty sweet too
Lilfelong PITTSBURGH Panthers fan. Considering it's Nike now it could've been much worse but I'm not much of a fan of these either. I want the panther head back on the helmets. I want "Pittsburgh" back on the jerseys or nothing at all.... Well this "Pitt" still on there could've been worse too. They could've gone back to the mustard yellow, lighter blue, and the script "Pitt".
