Wrapping up a whirlwind day of activity in Pittsburgh sports, the Steelers announced that TE Heath Miller has signed a six-year deal that will keep him in the black and gold until 2014. In his first four seasons, Miller has amassed 168 catches for 1,932 yards and 21 touchdowns, to go along with two shiny Super Bowl rings. One of the best all-around tight ends in the NFL, Miller was set to hit the free agent market after the 2009 season. Financial terms of the new deal are not yet available.
The numbers are in, and Heath should be a very happy Miller. Six years, $35.3 million, with a $12.5 million signing bonus. That $5.88 million average puts Miller fifth among NFL tight ends, behind only Dallas Clark ($6.9 million annual average), Kellen Winslow II ($6.5), Tony Gonzalez ($6.25), and Daniel Graham ($6 million).
