The Penguins embarked on the task of keeping their championship team intact, signing 38-year-old winger Bill Guerin to a one-year deal worth $2.85 million and winger Craig Adams to a two-year, $1.10 million deal today.
Guerin had five goals and seven assists in 17 regular season games, to go with seven goals and eight assists in the playoffs. He was a key ingredient in the chemistry of this mostly-youthful team after his arrival via trade/theft from the New York Islanders on March 4. I thought the price was a little high, but the trade-off in a short deal for an older player balances things out in my book. Now all that remains is the question of how Guerin will perform over the course of an entire 82-game season and exactly how much gas is left in that tank.
Forwards Ruslan Fedotenko, Petr Sykora, and Miroslav Satan, defensemen Rob Scuderi, Hal Gill and Philippe Boucher, and goalie Mathieu Garon are among the remaining Penguin free agents. With less than $5 million of cap space remaining and the free agent clock ready to start this week, prepare yourselves the pending changes to your World Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.

Adams, acquired on March 4 via the waiver wire, had three goals and two assists in the playoffs. He quietly excelled on the penalty kill and played solid on the fourth line, making his signing another feather in Ray Shero's cap. Plus, at only $550K per year, it's hardly what I would call a risky deal. All in all, it was a nice day of announcements for the Champs.

TSN's reporting Guerin's deal at $2M. If that's the case, this deal is even better.
Yup $2M. Great deal for both the Pens and Guerin. We get a great veteran leader and still able performer at a bargain price and Guerin gets to play with Crosby on a Cup Championship team.
Plus at only 1 year, both parties leave themselves plenty of options after next season.
The base is 2 million but read that 2.85 million is the possible value through incentives and bonuses.
Regardless, it will be good to have him back. Wonder if his family is going to move to Pittsburgh now that he signed?
I think that is a pretty nice deal for both sides as well. I wonder if he is going to play every night or maybe play about 55 or 60 regular season games?
Now, it's down to Scuds or Tenk?
AJ, Molinari says:
"The Penguins opted against signing Guerin, who plays on Sidney Crosby's right wing, to a contract laden with performance bonuses, although Article 50.2 of the league's labor agreement allowed them to because he is 35 or older and got a one-year deal."
So it's $2M straight up.
I like the deal 1,000 times more with the $2 million price tag. Great signing at that level.
does anyone think the penguins could beat the pirates in a best of seven baseball series?
Penguins in the exact opposite position of the Pirates when signing free agents.
The Pens get players to sign at a discount for the opportunity to contend for a championship, and the Pirates must pay a premium to have any hope of signing top level veterans because of their limited chances to reach the post season.
Adam thinks this is 'pathetic'.
Penn State didn't want Guerin and Adams.
