UPDATED: NEWS AND NOTES

--MAF stopped 28 of 31 in his comeback, Geno Malkin had four points, and the 17-10-4 Pens steamrolled the Thrashers, 6-3.

The game was capped off by Sidney Crosby unselfishly passing up an open net in order to get the puck to Malkin, who buried it and made it official with 26 seconds left in the game. It was quite an eventful night for Sid, who also threw a few punches as part of his busy evening [video].

In the "former Pens" category, Johan Hedberg had a relief performance in which he stopped six Penguins shots; the 2000-01 playoffs seem like a lifetime ago. Colby Armstrong scored his seventh goal of the season and got a 10-minute misconduct penalty (along with Eric Godard) in the third.

The Pens resume play Saturday against the 12-13-6 Maple Leafs, who just watched Mats Sundin sign with the Canucks.

--Busy morning for Big Ben, who appeared on ESPN's Mike and Mike as well as WDVE's Christmas Special, where he sang along with Ralph the Cat.

DVE's lineup was a virtual who's who of Pittsburgh, including Roethlisberger, Donnie Iris, Shady McCoy, Brett Keisel, Justin Hartwig, Sally Wiggin, Dave Wannstedt, Scott McKillop, and Joe Grushecky. [ESPN, WDVE]

UPDATE:

Here's the official link to DVE's Christmas Show page, with photos and video. Good stuff.

--Keep your eyes on Cortland Finnegan vs. Hines Ward in Sunday's Steeler-Titan matchup. That's a fiesty pair, especially considering Finnegan's recent $25,000 fine as a result of two plays on one series against Houston. [Fox]

--Jack Wilson said the Pirates need more players to compete. Sounds like the frustrated words of a guy who knows he's coming back to Pittsburgh in 2009. [PG]

--Former Bucco Chris Duffy signed with the Milwaukee Brewers. Talent-wise, Duffy should undoubtedly cover the loss of CC Sabathia. [JS Online]

--Finally, here's an SI cover that will probably sell well in the area:

The Mike Prisuta poem is truly heart warming. Especially with his family themed inbred comments.
