TIMONEN LIKELY OUT FOR SERIES

Thanks to the nifty new KDKA sports widget on the right side of the page, we're all privy to breaking sports news related to our fair city. And here's a doozy that I first read about on my own site: Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen will likely miss the Eastern Conference finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins because of a blood clot in his ankle.

Timonen is Philly's top defender and had the assignment of throwing Alexander Ovechkin and Alexei Kovalev off of their games in the first two rounds. And since the Pens have no players whose name starts with "Alex" on their roster, that meant Timonen would have next been tending to Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin in the Finals.

What does this mean? Well, I'd take it as another notch on the already-growing list of excuses that Flyer players and fans will use once the Penguins move on to the Stanley Cup, right after referees giving the Pens all the calls because the NHL wants them in the Finals and Sidney Crosby being a dirty rotten diver.
