As of 11:01 AM, the PG is reporting that Dave Littlefield has been fired. I expect the streets downtown to empty in a Mardi Gras-style celebration.
So where do the Pirates go next? Well, my friends at Bugs and Cranks have already started a series entitled "The Search for a CEO", a look at who will guide this team into the next 15 years of losing. Once the CEO is in place, the next Littlefield/Bonifay/Ted Simmons can be named. Let's hope they get it right this time.
UPDATE:
ESPN.com reports that senior director of player development Brian Graham will be the interim GM, presumably because he's done such a great job in his capacity of developing players.

i delivered a huge fist pump in my office... those around me gave me a befuddled look but when i told them the news the office erupted in a loud cheer.... MAN DOWN!!! LITTLEFIELD DOWN!!!
Last I checked, the Nuttings were still in charge.
While this is good news, you still can't polish a turd. They'll probably just hire Littlefield Part 2 to replace him.
By the way, new rule Raul, There is NO WAY you can allow all these "why my team is better" essays to be posted without having the comments on!! Shame, shame, shame. It has been torture.
The real question now whether anybody with a proven track record in running a team will want to come to a franchise that's cursed (if only for roughly 25 of the last 28 years) cash-strapped yet able to spend like a drunken sailor on the wrong guys. The Pirates have become a career graveyard for front-office guys post-Syd Thrift.
(Don, the adsense in-text links make this article look ugly above and beyond the subject matter.)
Am I the only one seeing a distant chance of the McNuttings hiring monkeys in each of these positions and turning the front office into that monster.com commercial while sitting there flipping off the fans on the Jumbotron? And if Dan Duquette is the solution, then I don't want to know the question...
Wow...
When I heard this it was kind of like in a movie when the "Hallelujah" music comes on...
...then I realized that regardless of the GM we'll probably still suck next year.
Oh and... YAHOO!!
Comments have returned!
Did you turn them off so we'd stop ripping the guest columnists bragging about their NFL teams to shreds or what?
They were so happy, they won last night. Has to be a good thing.
(And yes! Agreed with LLiMH! Comments are back!)
