DiPietro Out 4-6 Weeks After Johnson Fight

If Brent Johnson's goalie fight with Rick DiPietro didn't cement his place on some level of Pittsburgh sports folklore, this should do it: as a result of the fight, DiPietro will now miss 4-6 weeks of action for the Isles with facial fractures and knee swelling. Remember, all of that came from one Johnson punch.

"It's frustrating, it's unfortunate and every other emotion you can throw in there," DiPietro told reporters. "I'm sick of losing, our team's sick of losing. You never go into a fight expecting you're going to get smashed in the face that hard, or with these kind of consequences, but it happens and you move on."

That's Rick DiPietro, winner of today's unscheduled Sad Trombone Award.

As for the Pens, they're back in action tonight at home against the Sabres, and if you're going, the team asks that you bring a Terrible Towel. I love it!

“We’re huge supporters of the Steelers and we all believe they’re going to bring that seventh Super Bowl trophy back to the City of Champions,” said David Morehouse, CEO and President of the Penguins. “It’s going to be a festive atmosphere in Pittsburgh all weekend, and we think having fans bring their Terrible Towels to our game Friday night is a great way for them to show their passion for both the Steelers and the Penguins. Of course, if they want to bring their special Winter Classic edition of the Terrible Towel – that’s fine with us.”

Johnson should ask to borrow some of James Harrison's pillows.

A hockey player gets his butt kicked in a one punch fight and is out 4 to 6 weeks with facial fractures and knee swelling. He has got to be both embarrassed and in pain. I think he deserves a little bit of sympathy. I feel bad for the guy and wish him well. It it were Ronnie Hextall, sure, that would be another matter. But DiPietro, I have nothing against the guy. Has he ever been a Penguin villain?

I find this funny since DiPetro called out Johnson and stepped into Matt Cooke as well.

He was trying to fire up his team but it backfired.
