Tomlin Says Charlie Batch is in "Pole Position" to Start Sunday

Byron Leftwich will compete for the gig, but it looks like Charlie Batch could very well be the Steelers' starting quarterback on Sunday at Tampa.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, Tomlin he doesn't expect Leftwich to be hindered by the left knee that he sprained on Sept. 2, and that the team will not sign another quarterback this week in light of the injury to Dennis Dixon. He also added that Dixon will not be put on injured reserve at the moment.

Other notes from Tuesday:

OL TRAI ESSEX (sprained ankle) is questionable for Sunday

OL DOUG LEGURSKY will start if Essex can't go

OT MAX STARKS (ankle) is on course to return for Sunday, as is NT Casey Hampton. Both missed the Titans game on Sunday.

WR ANTONIO BROWN and LB STEVENSON SYLVESTER were both praised for their special teams play against Tennessee.

WR HINES WARD, ANTWAAN RANDLE-EL and ARNAZ BATTLE are all emergency quarterback options.

I remember hearing stories about Kordell Stewart being in "pole position." I kid...

As i recall, Kordell believes in "Adam & Eve" not "Adam & Steve". Haha, nice jab tho Scott!

Guaranteed: if Batch starts, the steelers lose. If he starts over Leftwich, it'll show how lightly the 'lers are taking the 'aneers, and that spells disaster on sundees!

Sounds like Rock, Paper Scissors: Leftwich beats Dixon, Dixon beats Batch, Batch beats Leftwich.

I totally get giving Byron's knee another week to heal before B'more, though, if that's what Tomlin's thinking.
