15 Thoughts on Steelers-Falcons

That was certainly an interesting way to start what should be a very intriguing 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers season, no?

Glad to be 1-0, tough test next week.

Maybe I am nitpicking, but prior to the interception I was less than impressed with Troy. I thought he missed on more than a few tackles and overran a couple as well. However, there aren't many defensive guys in the league who make that pick. Maybe a handful.

I thought Dixon was awful in the first half. Did anyone notice how terrified he looked on the first snap of the game? Oh well, he was a different QB in the second half, but if he doesn't short-arm so many balls we win this game handily.

Mendy did a nice job, especially since the Falcons were certainly stacked up against him. Hines Ward is an ageless wonder, Heath Miller is beastly, and Mike Wallace needs more touches.

The defense was sick. Period. B-Mac held White to less than 10 ypc and the run D was outstanding, even sans Big Snack.

Next week will be a tough one, so it was nice to get that W yesterday.

@ BwBw - i agree... troy missed some tackles cause he didn't wrap up, but man did he come through in the clutch! That's why he's a game-changer.

3rd down efficiency (which i consider an underrated/very very telling statistic) needs to improve.

Good thing the ATL secondary dropped some catchable balls or else it wouldn't have been close enough for Troy to come through after Reed let a chance to win it slip through his fingers.

Why not run bubble screens to Wallace out of trips? LIKE ALL DAY LONG!?!

Nice start, but the sledding gets even tougher next week as we face a better defense, possibly without another starting OT! And i hope Big Snack isn't out against CJ2000 or else we might be in real trouble. Yeesh, DD vs VY in the battle for QB supremacy? Gonna need another uuuuge effort from the stiller's D.

I agree Troy left some plays on the field. Perhaps his timing is a bit off. However, his ability to make a play at crunch time is remarkable. The guy is just “money.”

Next week worries me because we traditionally have trouble against "scrambling" quarterbacks.

The Titans "D" will not drop interceptions like the Falcons.

I am not a big fan of Ben but the less I see him the more I appreciate his capabilities as a QB.

Ben's a good QB?...who knew?

@Steve - I know he is good. The comment was meant to be sarcastic for all of the so called experts who have Dixon replacing him by the fifth game.

Dixon, Batch and Leftwich cannot lead this team like Ben and his teammates know it. They may not like Ben, but they know he gives them the best chance to win a championship.

@Okel - I know, I was being sarcastic too. I think there's still only one person who believes that Dixon can replace Ben and even though he posts a lot here, I wouldn't call him an expert.

On both CBS and Fox's pregame shows yesterday at least one person on each panel made a comment about Ben not being the starter anymore once he came back........

I believe one of them went like this: " Uh yeauuh, Bean Wupplessbugger my nah be da stotting cuttaback onfe he cah bah fru da fafension".

That is my best attempt at phonetically transcribing Shannon Sharpe's infinite wisdom.

My goodness, could you all imagine his speech on the steps at Canton?

i don't think dixon is a good replacement for ben! now stfu!

i think yesterday proves that a good mix of run/pass & and an awesome D = win...

although, clock management and play calling absolutely sucked prior to the two-minute warning...

HomeRun,

I believe that pass the defensive end for ATL almost picked off was a bubble screen to Wallace with Hines blocking.

HomeRunFromBehindTheMeatballs said...

@LLimHb - Yeah, i think you're right! Good call, what i meant to say was "Why not run bubble screens where we actually block people ALL DAY?"

Steve said...

@Corey - Chill, I wasn't referring to you.
