Steeler Roster Cuts Announced

No surprises today as the Steelers announce six roster moves to get down to 75 players remaining in camp...

LB Brandon Renkart, FB Dwayne Wright, CB David Pittman, and OL Adrian Jones were all released by the team this morning. Also released was LB Andre Frazier, who had been on the team's IR list. None of the moves were shocking, unless you figured on some journeyman free agents making this team.

Rookie OT Chris Scott was placed on the PUP list, putting his future with the team in question. Scott was the team's fifth-round selection from Tennessee and broke his foot while working out at UT in the offseason.

The final cut comes on September 4, when teams are required to shave another 18 players from their rosters. The Steelers' first regular-season game is on September 12, at home against the Atlanta Falcons.

Why did they cut a guy on IR? I thought they didn't count as a roster spot for this season? Does Willie Colon count on the 53-man roster? Is there a limited number of IR players you can keep & Frazier isn't as good as Limas?!?

I don't know why they would cut a guy on IR. Does it make a financial difference? I am also curious how the guys who are in camp, but don't make the team get paid. I guess some type of prorated salary?

I think they get everything up front before they sign their contract.
