10 Steelers Under the Microscope in 2010

At long last, Steeler Training Camp has arrived, and I can barely contain myself. I might even splurge and drink two Diet Pepsis on Friday night to celebrate the arrival of players to Latrobe.

I figured we should commemorate the occasion with some hardcore Steeler talk, which is exactly what I attempted to do in today's feature for 93.7 The Fan, 10 Steelers Under the Microscope in 2010.

These are the guys who will really be feeling the pressure to step up, for a variety of reasons.Their level of play and their health will be crucial to the team's success this season.

I'll be debating the merits of this list with Seibel and Starkey at 3:40 p.m. on Friday, so if you can tune in, please do so. For those stranded at their computers, you can listen online at 937thefan.cbslocal.com.

Update: The station was having some major phone line issues at Latrobe, so we're doing some re-shuffling. Here's the new appearance schedule:

8:00 p.m. Friday with Andrew Fillipponi
5:20 p.m. Sunday with John Phillips
3:20 p.m. Monday with Seibel and Starkey

Amen... most important player to the stillers 2010 success. 1.Ben 2a.Troy 2b.Aaron Smith Here's to hoping for a healthy season out of all of these guys!

I, for one, am VERY VERY excited to have B Mac back. I thought he was the perfect corner for this system & i think/hope he'll bounce back from last season's struggles.

If anyone can will themselves back a step which was thought to be lost, it's the man how spells his name like warrior with an F!

I have zero worries about Mr. Woodley in 2010. 2011 on the other hand... he best get paid! by pittsburgh!

The depth behind rashard worries me too, but let's not pretend FWP was doing much of anything last year that will be difficult to replace with any warm body.

Mike Wallace prob has the toughest task/highest expectations to live up to this season. Could this be the year age finally catches up with Hines? I think that Wallace will go from the #3WR that opposing defenses had to gameplan for to #1. That's a lot to ask of a 2nd yr player that was drafted in the 3rd round. That GB catch was a thing of beauty tho :-o

Good read Don!

Hmmm, I thought Skippy and Randle El would have made the list. I know I'll be hoping Randle El makes an impact and brings enough to the receiving corps along with Wallace, to help make up for losing Holmes. Hopefully El can help draw enough attention from secondaries that Wallace can find the room and time to make plays, if not, he's going draw a lot of coverage.

It will also be interesting to see if Reed can stay "incident" free and have a good enough season for the Steelers to consider resigning him after this season...if they can even afford to.

Even though it wasn't his fault he got injured and just a freak kinda thing, you just know staying healthy will be in the back of Troy's mind, maybe even to the point of being over-cautious...early on anyways. He probably realizes just how important he is to the defense and how his absence greatly effected the teams fortunes last season, so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see the same "Troy versus the world" kind of intensity as he had in game 1 of last season but I just hope it doesn't effect his style of play for more than a game or two until it's all forgotten and he is back to the Troy of old.
