TODAY'S HEADLINES

Hines Ward visited the island of Jeju with his Korean mother on Thursday, and here is everything you need to know about their trip. As far as I know, there were no issues with iPods on his flight. [Brian in Jeollanam-do]

The Pittsburgh Pirates, fresh off a sweep of the Chicago Cubs, have a tall order tonight in Chris Carpenter and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Carpenter is 11-1 with a 2.27 ERA in 13 starts against the Bucs in his career, so best of luck to Zach Duke in trying to win against those odds. [PittsburghPirates.com]

The city of Pittsburgh is a finalist for the Frozen Four, college hockey's version of the Final Four, for either 2013 or 2014. Robert Morris is chasing the bid, with the games being held at the new Consol Energy Center. VisitPittsburgh and the Penguins' organization are cosponsoring the bid. A decision is expected in June. The Pittsburgh Pirates' Top 10 prospects for 2010 have been named by TopProspectAlert.com.

Hint: #1 rhymes with the word "Pedro". [Top Prospect Alert]

Mark Madden has high praise for Jordan Staal and Max Talbot, criticism for Alexei Ponikarovsky and  Ruslan Fedotenko, and some very true words about who is to blame for the team's struggles. [WXDX/Mark Madden]

Bob Smizik has an update on former Pirate prospects Bryan Bullington and John Van Benschoten, who are surprisingly still kicking around in pro ball. Everyone loves a reclamation project! [Bob Smizik Blog]

And to close, you can catch some of my thoughts in audio form on Friday's Gregg Giannotti Show at 8:20 p.m. on 93.7 The Fan. We'll be talking Pens, Bucs, and much, much more.

Could someone please send BR this picture of Hines and his mother. Refreshing after seeing No. 7 and his devil t-shirt and ball cap splashed around the media for the past two months.

@jonvito - #8 hasn't played yet either.

Remember what a flat out terrible pick tony sanchez was? Now he's the #3 prospect... Does that mean everyone was wrong? or does that just go to show how baren the minor league cupboards were?
