Being that today is the national holiday known as NFL Draft Day, my topic for debate centers on the Steelers' choices, in particular. With that, I present the 10 Best and 10 Worst Draft Picks in Steeler history, with ample honorable mentions in both categories.
The 10 worst was a fairly easy list to compile. High round pick + disastrous career = bust. We all know the formula, but it was no less painful to revisit the Jamain Stephens of the Steeler Universe. On the other hand, the 10 best was incredibly tough to choose. There was one direction I could've gone in, but I finally picked a somewhat different angle to make this a little bit more of a unique list.
If you'd like to check it out, it's now up for viewing on The Fan website. And I'll be talking about it in the 4 p.m. hour today with Seibel and Starkey at The Fan's NFL Draft Party at the Steelhouse Saloon. You can listen online at The Fan's site, or even better, you can join us at the day-long party today and see what a real, live blogger looks like in person during one of my rare ventures into sunlight.

interesting kordell is in the honorable mention under "best", but no ben roethlisberger?
first Rounders weren't included.
Re-read my criteria for the 10 best and that should explain it
woops! still find it interesting that kordell is under the "best" and not the "worst"...
Good call on Fred Gibson. I knew that pick was a mistake from the start. I don't think he was even that good at UGA. The only highlights I remembered from his career were easy drops against Florida. I'm glad we got some production out of that other UGA receiver though.
What... no Danny Farmer?
I think Kordell was a solid 2nd rounder pick. A lot of people pegged him in the same vein as Tebow is being looked at now and he led us the a couple of AFC title games, regardless of failure in those games. Remember, not every team makes the playoffs almost every year or plays in the Conference title game 7 of 15 or something like that.
and the Pirates are losing 18-0
Pirates outscored 36-1 in three games vs Milwaukee. OMG
It's time... for the Mercy Rule
20-0 final
I liked seeing Kordell under "Honorable Mention" for best picks. I think he helped the team and could have done more had they not tried to turn him into a straight-back quarterback. But Neil O'Donnell on the same list?! Did Larry Brown have something to do with this list? Sorry, I can't forget or forgive SB XXX.
I would have included Deon Figures on the most disappointing list. Number 23 overall pick in 93, only played with the Steelers for 4 years, and in that time ammassed a grand total of 3 INTs.
