REVIS ISLAND COMES TO ALIQUIPPA

It was yet another snowy day in Pittsburgh on Monday, but that didn't stop Aliquippa HS alum and New York Jets superstar defensive back Darelle Revis from paying a visit to his old stomping grounds.

Revis spent time at Aliquippa Elementary today giving a pair of pep talks to the students, telling them, "The sky's the limit. You guys can be anything you want to be. It starts right now."

In a day when athletes are making headlines for all the wrong reasons, Revis has been a breath of fresh air. Beyond his appearance at Aliquippa today, Revis has been active in the community by founding Nerih Inc., an Aliquippa nonprofit that provides leadership development and dropout prevention help to city students.

The former Pitt Panther star, cousin of fellow Panther Sean Gilbert, was the Tribune Review Player of the Year and Post Gazette WPIAL Class AA Player of the Year in 2003. He also led Aliquippa to a PIAA state championship in football (with five TDs in the title game) and two WPIAL basketball titles, leading the team in scoring both seasons.

But in these parts, Revis will always be remembered for one play: this amazing return against West Virginia in the 2006 Backyard Brawl. Years later, it's still as awe-inspiring as the first time I saw it live.
