WITH THE 18TH PICK IN THE 2010 DRAFT, THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS SELECT...

The Steelers will be picking 18th in the 2010 NFL draft, so let the speculation begin. Steel City Insider's Jim Wexell mentioned the names of UCLA's Brian Price, the 6'2", 300-pound DT shown above, and Florida LB Brandon Spikes, best known for his eye-gouge of Georgia RB Washaun Ealey this past season. He certainly sounds like a pleasant young man who would be willing and able to do something worthy of a future "Renegade" montage.

If you're wondering what kind of player goes in the 18th spot, here's some recent draft history:

2009: Denver - Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee
2008: Baltimore - Joe Flacco, QB, Delaware (via Pitt)
2007: Cincinnati - Leon Hall, DB, Michigan
2006: Dallas - Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State
2005: Minnesota -Erasmus James, DE, Wisconsin

The Steelers have had an incredible batting average in the first round over the past decade, so I'd be confident if they were drafting 1st or 32nd. Their draft needs will be shaped by what will be done in free agency (coming or going), so it's practically impossible to target a single player at this early of a date. That being said...any favorites you'd like to see in a Steeler uniform?

Would love to have Joe Haden, but he's projected in the low teens right now

If for some reason they lose their mind I would love to see CJ Spiller. Cut Logan, cut Parker. Spiller/Mendenhall back field=boing.

I'll be praying that McClain drops to us. Roll tide.

Lotta excellent DBs in this draft. One has to drop to 18.

Haden, Aaron Berry...

Taylor Mays is a freakishly athletic defensive playmaker out of USC. Sounds like someone else we are used to seeing in Black and Gold....

ERIC Berry and AARON Berry are 2 completely different players......

Taylor Mays would be a guy I'd love to see end up in a Steeler uniform. I would have to do some homework to see who else is coming out.

i agree with taylor mays, a secondary with polamalu and mays would be terrifying. other than that, terrance cody. with casey hampton probably asking for big bucks, cody could be a completely viable (and very successful in college) replacement.

What about the tackle from Rutgers, Anthony Davis? The Steelers need O-line help if Big Ben is planning on surviving another year.

Taylor Mays will probably drop to use but he's more a SS type and not the FS we need. He was expected to be a top 10 pick but he's been beat deep a lot this year so he's dropping to around 20. Not the kind of guy we need.

Berry will never drop to us. Wouldn't mind if Haden did or Patrick Robinson from FSU impressed enough to jump 10 spots. Also maybe we get lucky and either Trent Williams or Anthony Davis at OT drop to us.

My mistake. I meant Berry out of Tennessee. (give a guy a break -- it was late). Regardless, ERIC Berry will most likely be gone by Pick 18 anyway. Mays, however, could drop because I think he's a little more raw talent-wise. Might take him a year or two to realize full potential (like Troy).

I only fear reaching for defensive line help if the best prospects are taken.

i dont see the excitement over mays... he reminds me of thomas davis whom the panthers drafted of similar size and skill sets but, like mays, struggled in coverage... thomas davis is a solid contributor with carolina now, however he wears a number in the 50s and plays outside LB... our needs seem to lie on both lines and in the secondary (corner)

hampton most likely is gone since they may not be able to even afford the franchise tag on him, terrence cody from alabama has superb agility and nimbleness for a 380lb man, you wanna beat the ravens, bengals, and browns it starts up front, stopping the run

Tebow?

*ducks*

I live in LA and have been watching Taylor Mays for past 4 years. Please, don't draft him. He's big and straight ahead fast but not very quick and can't cover anyone. He usually hits some after they've caught the ball. Steelers desperately need an OL - should have taken 2 or 3 last year. No argument - OL is the best choice by far.

I would love to have a handful of players, With this pick I think they go with either 1 of the following

Taylor Mays
C.J Spiller
Bruce Campbell
Rolando McClain
Brandon Spikes
Golden Tate
Donovan Warren

If they could get anyone of these guys I think it would be huge. Out of all these guys i persoanlly like Rolando McClain the best with Taylor Mays being second let me know what you think.

Tim Tebow - we need a new QB now - especially one with morals and values.

I will no longer be able to be excited to watch the steelers if Big Ben is still QB (and not willing to wait for inevitable outcome of criminal case. The evidence is already overwhelming)
I am a lifelong fan, but not enough to watch a sexual predator lead MY team.
He ruined it and i was a HUGE fan.
No more.

TIM TEBOW!!
