PIRATES SIGN THREE

You know it's a slow news morning when Pirate minor league deals are leading off, but I really didn't want to resort to back-to-back headline posts. So let's get today's party started with a briefing on your new prospective Buccos:

RH reliever Brian Bass - KC's 6th-round pick in 2000, Bass was a member of the Royals organization until 2006 and never reached the majors there. He made his MLB debut with Minnesota in 2008, and was traded to Baltimore later that season. In 2009, he finished second among American League relievers in innings pitched with 86 1/3, and posted a 5-3 record and 4.90 ERA. Sounds like your classic bullpen innings eater. I hope he's hungry.

C Luke Carlin - 29 years old and the likely replacement for Robinzon Diaz, Carlin was a member of Team Canada in last year's World Baseball Classic. He was a six-year veteran of the San Diego minor league system until finally making his MLB debut with the Padres in 2008. He spent 2009 with Arizona's AAA affiliate and threw out 35% of those bold enough to attempt a stolen base against him.

OF/1B Brian Myrow - You've gotta take your hat off to a guy who's pro career started with the Winnipeg Goldeneyes in 1999 and is still going, but Myrow is your typical 33-year-old journeyman minor league lifer. He has been a member of the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, White Sox, and Padres systems, and has just 51 MLB at-bats and a .157 average. He is a possible candidate for a backup first baseman job with the Pirates.

For those of you who loathe any mention of the Pirates, my apologies. Luckily, the rest of the day has much more to look forward to. There's Pitt-UConn, Pens-Flames, and the great FSN replay controversy yet to be discussed. Things will get better.

I think I speak for the entire Pirates fan base when I say that I anxiously await Brian Bass bobblehead night.

I guess this just further proves that if you have two legs (optional) and are vain enough to collect a paycheck for doing nothing more than breathing, then the Pirates have a uniform in your size. Can someone tell me again why this team doesn’t sell out every game?

Are you crazy. The Best FO in Sports is merely letting good baseball people make good baseball moves. Who are any of us to assume that a 33 year old with a .152 career batting average won't make a solid contribution at the major league level?

I mean, I have criticized the organization in the past and people absolutely teed off on me for it. Now, I see the light. Every move they make is the best move for the team.

Trading Jason Bay for 2 guys who couldn't even combine to match his output was a brilliant move! So was trading Jack Wilson for the real life inspiration for Jake Taylor! Absolutely brilliant. And let me tell you how GREAT 5-Tool Milledge is: HE IS SLOWER THAN A 6'7" WHITE GUY! That is some tremendous scouting folks.

Remember, I am the one who is crazy for thinking these were tremendous moves.

Sadly, there are others that also think these are great additions. I'm just waiting for the soon to be released FDA study that proves once and for all that drinking the new improved Pirates Kool-Aid gives you dementia and sever irritable bowels. They call it Stoopidass Syndrome.

Pirates spelled backwards is Setarip.

I hope a Pirate player read this and got upset for wasting their time.

Now they know how I feel.

I was being sarcastic of course.

The FO is a joke

How is signing Brian Myrow a bad move? He's organizational fodder. Literally every team in baseball signs a ton of guys like Myrow every year to fill out their minor league rosters.

Last year, we signed some guy named Garrett Jones to do the same thing.
