SORE LOSERS

The Flyers Flyered-up the end of Thursday night's 5-4 loss to the Penguins, and let's just say The Tanger wasn't too happy with the behavior of one Scott Hartnell. Was it a bite? Hartnell says no, but I think everyone reserves the right to be skeptical.

Yes, it was your typical Pittsburgh-Philadelphia game: ample penalties (Geno Malkin alone took four), hard hits, multiple "Crosby sucks" chants, nine goals, and flying fists - in other words, it was much more entertaining than the Pens' snoozefest with Phoenix just a night earlier.

Despite those four penalties, Geno Machine-o took home the game's #1 star with a goal and an assist. Alex Goligoski, Jordan Staal, and Bill Guerin each found the back of the net for the first time this season, and once again, Tyler Kennedy, Mr. Clutch, got the game-winner. Is there a new Mr. October in sports?

Jeff Carter wasted a four-point night for the Flyers, who lost for the first time this season despite holding Sidney Crosby pointless (and for the second night in a row - gasp). So much for Chris Pronger putting the Flyers on top, although that was a sweet misconduct he notched at the end of the game.

Each team is now 3-1, and the Pens suit up for action next on Saturday night at Toronto.

By the way, I forgot to link this the other day, but Mark Madden did a list of the Pens' top rivalries earlier this week (scroll down his page for the post), and the Flyers landed at #1. I must say, this is one tough list to compile. I could see the case for any of his top-3 to lay claim to the #1 spot.

Wait, it was "Crosby sucks"? I thought they were chanting "Crosby's Cup"...

Those fuckers can say what they want ans chant what they want. We won the cup and beat them on their ice tonight.

Ray Lewis is the most hated in the Burgh but every time I see that bozo Hartnell, he inches closer and closer to Ray Ray. At this point its 1 and 1a.

I don't know mondesi......regarding madden's column, I don't see how anyone could lay claim to #1 rival of the Pens besides the cryers.

I agree that the Flyers are #1, but I could also see the case for the Caps (so much hype with the Ovie-Sid/Ovie-Geno matchups) and the Wings, given the stakes in which they've met in the last two postseasons...plus an entire offseason of Kris Draper crying about Sid, to throw some gas on the fire. If you could choose a ticket to any of those three games, are you turning down Detroit? That's a tough call.

Because the Pens play the Flyers and Caps 6 times this year, and the Red Wings once or twice, I think the more valuable ticket would be against the Wings and thats the game I would probably chose to attend. But I agree that the Flyers are the Pens #1 rivals. They used to beat up on us so bad in the 70's and 80's that owning them now just never gets old.

I think they only play the Caps 2 or 3 times a year since they're not in the same division - which is why I'll definitely agree that the Flyers are the #1 rival.

That, coupled with the fact that we're in the same state and all.

I just love being able to come to work the day after a Pens win over the Cryers and say 'na na na na boo boo' to all their fans. And then prepare myself for the excuses.

This morning it was - 'you know, if Coburn wouldn't have put one in our own net, the game would've went into OT.' Bahahaha - it doesn't matter, you put one into your own net, 'nuff said.

To answer Mondesi's question about ticket choices - I'd take a ticket to a Flyers game over the Craps or Detroit any day of the week. As long as it's not in Philadelphia - I'm 0-3 at the Wach, and have made the decision to never go there as long as I live.

I had the pleasure of watching last night's game with some Flyer fans. It is always nice to beat them.

I love when they start claiming that Sid is a whiner. I always counter with the fact he learned from Richards who is the biggest sissy on the ice. Did you see that shot he tried to take at Fleury as he is running in to him?

The ticket I want is the Red Wings even though the Flyers are the bigger rival. I think Draper will be the hunted in that game and I cannot wait to see it.

Everyone only calls Sid a whiner because at some point in their worthless lives, they heard that he whines. Maybe he did when he was younger, but no more than anyone else. It's easy to point at, so everyone acts like they're witnessed him do it firsthand and it was their idea, even though it started with a hockeywriter and player quote. Now everytime he talks to someone, he's accused of whining.

Considering Hatcher bit Travis Zajak a few season ago, I think Hartnell would claim he learned from one of the best.
