FREE HOCKEY ENDS BADLY

Notes on the Pens' 3-2 shootout loss at Toronto last night:

-No Sid, no Geno, no Fleury for the Pens. In fact, only five Stanley Cup winners were in the lineup for the champs.

-Regardless, there was 18,910 (100.6% capacity) on hand at the Air Canada Centre. And for what it's worth, this game outdrew the Blue Jays game being played simultaneously by roughly 7,000.

-Penguin goals came from Chris Conner and Ryan Bayda - both in the first period. Which means the Penguins blew a 2-0 lead.

-Brent Johnson stopped 14 of 15 for the Pens over the first two periods. In relief, John Curry was 16 of 17, but only 1 for 3 in the shootout.

-Shootout goals came from Nazeem Kadri and Lee Stempniak for Toronto. Kadri also scored the game-tying goal with 1:08 left in the third period.

-Pens are 1-2-1 in the preseason.

-Local product Christian Hanson had an assist for the Leafs.

-On the fight card: Jordan Staal vs Michael Komisarek...

...Paul Bissonnette vs Jay Rosehill...

...and Bissonnette vs Francois Beauchemin:

-Two preseason games left: Thursday at Columbus (7 PM) and Sunday against Detroit (5 PM).
-And finally, here's the Pens' new marketing campaign for 2009-10: "Defy Ordinary".
