NEWS AND NOTES



--Pirate haters, cover your eyes: they just took two (and nearly three) of three from the defending champs. They refuse to be ignored. [PG]

--Surreal sight last night, seeing Michael Vick's first completion in his NFL comeback go to...LeSean McCoy. The Shadester finished with 48 yards and a touchdown on 16 touches. [ESPN.com]

--From the "Headline says it all" department: "74-Year-Old's 'Steeler Flying Leap' Foils Burglary Suspect". [WTAE]

--Steeler injury update: QB Dennis Dixon (shoulder), TE Sean McHugh (knee) and OL Darnell Stapleton (knee) will not play against Buffalo on Saturday. K Skippy Reed (ankle), WR Santonio Holmes (back), RB Willie Parker (hamstring), RB Frank "The Tank" Summers (hamstring) and DT Steve McLendon (elbow) are all questionable. For Buffalo, Terrell Owens will not play against the Steelers due to a lingering toe injury. Tragic. [PG]

--In other injury news, this time regarding former Pittsburgh athletes: Nate Washington could miss the early part of the season for Tennessee (hamstring); Nyjer Morgan is out for the year (broken hand); and Freddy Sanchez just hit the DL (shoulder). Adam LaRoche and Jack Wilson should be on notice.

--Pedro Alvarez homered twice last night for Altoona, giving him 26 on the season. To answer your next question, Garret Jones leads the big league club this year with 15. [KDKA/PSI]
