BIG BEN: "THE TRUTH WILL PREVAIL"

Ben Roethlisberger just issued a brief statement regarding the recent allegations made by Andrea McNulty, and here is the transcript:

Roethlisberger said, "I did not sexually assault Andrea McNulty."

"Saturday was the first that I learned of her accusations. Her false and vicious accusations are an attack on my family and on me"

"I would never, ever force myself on a woman."

"I will fight to protect my family and my reputation."

"I'm not going to discuss my private life or this civil case in the media."

"I'll respond to her outrageous allegations in the appropriate forum."

"I have an obligation to our fans, my teammates to my coaches and everyone in the organization to remain focused on the Pittsburgh Steelers and I will do that."

"The allegations against me are reckless and false."

"As much as I would like to answer everyone's questions, I will respect the legal process and I am confident that the truth will prevail"

if people could put their Steeler-bias aside, how many people think he actually did something? it may be too soon to tell. i think it was just a one-night stand, she thought it was more & got pissed. i don't doubt that he was aggressive, but i can't imagine him crossing THAT line. if this was Quinn/DA, flacco, or palmer, would Steeler Nation be quick to throw the hammer at them? I say, yes. people got to realize, that a suspension is probable allbeit for one game (most likely). bottom line is that this is a horrible black eye on a proud, model franchise.

I don't know whether Ben's been assaulting women in the offseason, but judging by his double-chin, I'd say he hasn't been in the gym all that much.

"...horrible black eye on a proud, model franchise"???

Way to pass judgment so early on. Did the accusations against Bettis years ago leave a similar bruise?

Although I agree with your sentiment about Steeler Nation's negative reaction to opposing QBs.

I just want to know where he got his suit. I thought Montgomery Ward went out of business.

tom- this is a black eye on the franchise. im not passing judgement on guilt or innocence. the fact is that the super bowl champions are in the news not for an upcoming training camp rather for their top name qb possibly raping a woman. if you think this is a ho-hum nothing thing, i have to disagree. and yes, the bettis case for a brief time did look bad on the steelers from the publics perception. and this is a bigger story than the bettis thing as of right now. again, i'm not judging, simply stating the facts. this reflects poorly on the steelers fair or not. public perception can be a bitch.

When did Mondesi's House become the Insider?

Ben returned for the Celebrity Golf Tournament a year after his consensual fling. The girl was thinking she was in for another fling this year when he returned. Ben wasn't interested this time around and wala.

Whose really to say at this point?

Only two people really know what happened there and nothing in this world surprises me. I am just disappointed in Ben after seeing those pics of her.....

I wish Ben presented himself alittle better if he was going to have a press conference. He looked like he rolled out of bed and hasn't slept in days. He needed to shave at least and washed his hair. He did look heavy. Ohhh..there goes the season.

The only way I wouldn't count this season out is if the NFL was a league where someone could, i dont know, commit murder a and basically admit to being an accomplice to said, then roll over on their friends and blame them for said murder. And then win Super Bowl MVP while not even sitting out a game.

So until that happens in the NFL..........................................

The timing of this civil complaint reeks of someone holding a grudge (maybe against the man or the employer) and seeking a payday from a ballplayer that might be looking to settle just so this burden is taken care of before the start of the season.

A pretty solid argument for why Ben is innocent:
