That's the hot topic around the web this morning in the wake of the Penguins' 6-2 thrashing of Atlanta last night. Puck Daddy discussed Cooke's hit on Zach Bogosian in great depth and reached the conclusion (based on the two videos below) that "Cooke's no saint, but he wasn't trying to end Bogosian's season here." I would concur.
Questionable hits aside, the most important storyline to come out of this game was the fact that the Penguins got another two points in their playoff savings account. Evgeni Malkin, who was too sick to practice as late as Monday, had two goals and three assists in a gutsy effort. The win moved the Penguins into a fourth-place tie with Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference.

The Atlanta coach is full of $hit too. Nothing wrong with that hit, (or attempted hit).
Although if it was that jaggoff Excelby that Cooke was trying to line up, I'd have no problem even if it was dirty.
Yet he had no problem with Perron dragging Letang by his throat to ice using his stick or Boulton sucker punching Talbot while he was being held up by another ATL player?
Frankly it looks like Cooke whiffed on a check attempt, {he was leading with his shoulder} and made knee to knee contact.
The guy isn't a saint, but it doesnt look like the hit was intentionally dirty.
I read an article on espn.com and almost peed myself when Anderson referred to bogosian as a superstar and thus needed to be protected. He at best, would be a second or third string defenseman on an ahl affiliate if he was playing for an organization that had enough talent to compete for a playoff off spot. He turtled and left the game because they were getting thumped on the scoreboard and he quit on his team. The only thing that was dirty about Matt Cooke's hit were my underware after I finished the espn.com article! Quit whining Atlanta, the season, and your pain and suffering are almost over.
