I know this isn't Pittsburgh sports-related, but sometimes we have to pay attention to the non-black and gold universe. Today is one of those days, as Alex Rodriguez goes the apology route and admits taking performance-enhancing drugs while playing for the Texas Rangers during a three-year period beginning in 2001:
"When I arrived in Texas in 2001, I felt an enormous amount of pressure. I needed to perform, and perform at a high level every day," Rodriguez told ESPN's Peter Gammons in an interview in Miami Beach, Fla. "Back then, [baseball] was a different culture. It was very loose. I was young, I was stupid, I was naïve. I wanted to prove to everyone I was worth being one of the greatest players of all time. I did take a banned substance. For that, I'm very sorry and deeply regretful."
So ESPN managed to snag the headlines away from SI's original scoop. Well played. And this comes on the same day of a bizarre Brian McNamee interview that McNamee would for some reason only give to Howard Stern. It's steroid talk everywhere, even on Mondesi's House, where we must take a break from our regularly scheduled fan photos of Ronnie Florian to cover the latest breaking news.

He should get the boot. He's far more of a cheater for this than Pete Rose ever was.
I could care less. I don't care if he bathed in steroids. He was hardly alone. I find it hard to believe that Selig & Fehr didn't know about this either. They new and did nothing. After that disasterous baseball strike in '94, MLB was desperate to get the fans back. Desperation leads to stupid decisions & looking the other direction when illegal activities occur (steroid use). Now the MSM and baseball officials are shocked that this occurred?? Please..... MLB sucks.
I just love how he, and many others for that matter, think it is some kind of heroic act because he confirmed the positive test in an interview.
That doesnt really impress me unless he had admitted to it BEFORE getting caught. And he just turned and blamed it on the fans.
I am sorry, i dont feel bad for a guy who signed a $250 million dollar contract to PLAY A GAME FOR A LIVING!
