MARK MADDEN VS. BOB SMIZIK, ROUND 89

As previously noted earlier this month, the history between ESPN Radio's Mark Madden and the PG's Bob Smizik is well-documented. Smizik blasted the controversial host in a May 8 article recapping Costas Now's media-themed show, which was then followed by Madden's letter to the PG.
So imagine my lack of shock this morning when I saw Smizik take Madden to task yet again (and on the front page of the PG's sports section, no less), this time for some comments Mark made about Ted Kennedy earlier in the week.
Long story short, I see this rivalry ending no time in the near future.

Madden's unbridled act hits new low [PG]

That was awful of Smizik to call for Madden's firing. If anything, Smizik should be fired for using his column for his own personal agenda instead of writing something interesting about sports. Smizik, Cook, Collier, Anderson, and even Kovacevic need to go.

No problem with Smizik writing a column about Madden. He writes what appears to be a weekly column about sports media in Pittsburgh, similar to what Phil Mushnick does in the NY Post.

Also, he's right on the mark with his comments. What Madden said is despicible.

It's a shame that he feels the need to bow to such depths. Madden is a very entertaining host and his show is plenty good enough without this type of non-sense.

Can someone expand on Madden trashing some of those other non- Steeler Pittsburgh icons... How can you trash Arnold Palmer?

Mark Madden's the greatest. Smizik is what's known as an "ass-clown".

I'd like to ship him and LouisLippsismyhomemammy back to Detriot (not a misspelling). They both belong there with all of those other butt munchers who love their octopi.

Smizek is being a tool on this one. The FM radio station where I live played music from the band "Dead Kennedys" after they read the news. What's the difference?

Plus, he really lost me on the Kopechne comment. He's classless and deserves fired because he dares to bring up the incident where TK killed somebody and got off scott free?

For the thousandth time: Madden is a wrestling fan. He's playing the "bad guy" wrestler as a talk show host. I don't know why that's so hard for people to grasp.

Smizik is a joke. How does the Post-Gazette let him get away with using his column as a platform for his vendetta against Madden? You're a sports columnist. Write about sports.

Is this the reason why Madden was not on the air today?? I read this article earlier this morning and then emailed Smizik back and forth throughout the morning to let him know how ridiculous his column is. I suggest more do the same because he replies very quickly.

hotdog...Kovacevic? Really? Why not instead just don't read the Post-Gazette. If you think you can do better as a writer why don't u start your own blog?

I don't like Madden, but I don't think what he said was anything worse than what Rush or any other conservative talk show host has said about Kennedy in the past. Smizik can write some good articles now and then, but I think he was definitely off the mark with his column today.

I don't read the Post Gazette anymore. As soon as they hire a different type of writer I'll continue to read again. However, their writers fall out of the main demographic and don't really connect to the readers anymore. Maybe hire someone that's young with a fresh new style instead of another washed up, 50+ year old, out of touch, out of shape writer.

As for Dejan, he's too much of a homer. If I wanted to read about the splendor of Pittsburgh, I wouldn't open up the sports page.

Thankfully Madden has been suspended by the station. The interesting thing is that on Friday, the show was still referred to as the Mark Madden Show. Today, it was not referred to in that vein.
