its funny because I've seen the clock do some strange things during patriot games on at least three separate occasions
I'm going off memory here. Wasn't the clock stopped so that the refs take a closer look to see if it was a first down? I dont think there was actually a measurement, but I believe the officials gathered to get a better look and called it a first down. If I recall they were a little slow getting the clock started up again after deciding it was indeed a first down. So we are talking about maybe 10 seconds. wouldnt that just mean the Pats would have had less time to try and tie the game up?

You're right on. The G-Men got a free momentary stoppage or two b/c they repeatedly came within a a few inches of a first down on that last drive.
