What's Going on at Penn State?

These are not happy days in Happy Valley. We'll start with Austin Scott, of which The Big Lead asks, "Just How Much Trouble Is the PSU RB In?" and adds:

While Scott’s suspension is being attritubted to a “curfew violation,” there may be more to the story. According to some anonymous posters on the Morning Call’s website, Scott may have gotten himself into some deep kimchi.

Pretty heavy accusations being tossed around.

On top of that, we have the weekend incidents of freshman tailback Joe Suhey and freshman backup punter Ryan Breen.

JoePa, road rager himself, checked in yesterday on the state of the team:

"Again, I go back to the fact that you [reporters] are trying to create a problem that I don't believe we have. Period. I don't want to talk about it. Really, it's a waste of my time and your time.

"I think we're making a lot out of nothing."

Really? Penn State fans, any thoughts?

Don't forget the gang beating at the HUD conducted by several football players.

Good call Zanzabar. I was just about to say, you probably missed the most important story of them.

Knowlege Timmons, the PSU eqaul of Chidi Iwouma or Shawn Morey were in the HUD along with Chris Bell, and Chris Baker. Baker was involved in the April dispute, and Bell, a promising young wideout, has been in Joe's doghouse all season. I guess we're finding out why.

As far as Scott goes, the acusations have gone all the way up to sexual assult. I won't miss the bum one bit. We've got solid guys in Kinlaw and Royster who can carry the load, and Scott was a distraction that needed to be let go.

The PG had a decent report on the Joe incidednt.

I'm not gonna sit here and deny the fact that PSU has severe leadership problems right now, but I will say all the bad things that are happening now, I feel, will make us stronger going into next season.

But, Pitt fans, I have yet to hear what is going to happen to Levance Fields. If his punishment is anything less than cleaning the Pete singlehandedly, it will be an outrage.

By the way, no matter whats happeningin the Valley, it can't compare to what has happpened to Pitt.

Pitt's biggest problem with accepting the 2 for 1 has been that they want to be taken seriously as a college football program.

How can we take a team seriously when they half fill a stadium on a Wednesday night just to get on TV? Really, why should we give Pitt charity? I'd be willing to say that if PSU were on Pitt's home schedule, there may be more Penn State fans there that day than Pitt fans. Thats sad.

Take a look at these numbers... http://www.blackshoediaries.com/story/2007/10/10/195318/24

...and then I want Pitt fans to tell me this is all Joe's sour grapes. We can't afford a 2 for 1 with a dying program just to keep a rivalry intact. Period.

In the grand scheme of things, Pitt having a bad season pales in comparison to someone's daughter being raped in her sleep. I guess that doesn't matter because Austin Scott is a "bum" though.

I'm sure Louis Lipps will agree

At least we didn't lose to Navy.

Steely,

Get over yourself. Both programs suck.

Pshhh.

In defense of both of us, that sounds like only a comment a fair weather USC fan could make with confidence.

Zanzabar, I was comparing the football programs, not the legal troubles. Pitt needs Penn State. That was my point.

By the way, It's called the HUB (Hetzel Union Building), not the HUD.

I blame PSU's problems on not having a true rival... therefor they can only have a rivalry with themselves.

Raul - Admit it. You just write about Penn State to see what Adam will write and how whatever he writes will end up being an attack on Pitt regardless of the topic.

So Raul writing about Penn State is really an attack on Pitt. Please, get this guy a doctor, quick!

Two wins vs. two losses.
That is all.

I've resigned myself to the fact that, strictly speaking about ON THE FIELD, Pitt's a basketball school now.

I still support their football program and hope that they get it turned around someday...

But ummm Adam, aren't you getting a little bit off topic here by assaulting our football team (who, don't get me wrong, deserve it)?

I know Levance got in a dustup, and he needs to be disciplined. I'm not a blind homer.

But geeez, this whole "JoePa is a beacon of all that is good and right and runs the cleanest program on earth, etc etc etc" mentality is taking a HUGE hit these days.

Just as I can't deny that Fields needs disciplined, you can't deny that perhaps JoePa's losing some control (apparently of himself too) over at Penn State?

It's not about this crappy "Our football team is better than yours so I'll mask our off the field troubles with that" attitude.

But seriously, if Penn State was located in Philadelphia, was out of the rankings and sucked, their stadium would be half-full too every week. Especially if the Flyers had a sold out game that night, and the locals were getting their football fix from the an awesome Eagles team.

On-field wise, that's the situation Pitt finds itself in, except in Pittsburgh obviously.

Sad fact for college teams playing in pro towns is that you gotta win to draw the people in.

But as for the off-the-field troubles, don't marginalize it by talking sports rivalry trash. It's a problem, just admit it.

By the way, it never ceases to amaze me that the most responded-to posts on this site are about Pitt v. Penn State...

I mean, a lot of the responders are Penn State types (namely Adam).

I thought this was a dead rivalry guys? Why all the commotion over a dead rivalry?

I mean, the Pitt Panthers are obviously irrelevant and meaningless. So why bother coming around here and posting about them or posting stuff about them on Penn State blogs?

I think you guys just need to let it go.

WorstAvid - When I wrote "whatever he writes will end up being an attack on Pitt regardless of the topic," the he was Adam not Raul.

Sorry Sean, that's a relief that you don't need psychiatric help!
