Tyrone Carter to Redskins; UFL Steeler Update

Safety Tyrone Carter, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Steelers, is joining former teammate Willie Parker on the roster of the Washington Redskins.

The 11-year NFL veteran, who spent the last six seasons in Black and Gold, will reconnect with former Steeler assistant Lou Spanos, who is the linebacker coach in Washington. Carter will be replacing Redskins safety Kareem Moore, who suffered an apparent sprained MCL on Saturday against the Ravens.

Carter's place in Steeler history/infamy was etched shortly after Super Bowl XL, when the story of his brother, Tank Carter, hit the news.

Tank, who was facing a six-month sentence for driving with a revoked license in Broward County, Florida, opted not to report to jail on time and instead watch Tyrone play in the 2005-06 NFL playoffs and eventually the Super Bowl. For that act of civil disobedience, Tank got 4 1/2 years tacked on to his sentence. Luckily, I'm fairly sure Tank won't have to worry about the Super Bowl with his brother on the Redskins this season.

While we're discussing Steelers of the past, I was poking around on the UFL website the other day and noted a few names from the past with gigs in the upstart league.

Butterfingered DB/PR Ricardo Colclough will fumble punts in 2010 for the Omaha Nighthawks, while LB Arnold Harrison and G Darnell Stapleton landed on the roster of the Florida Tuskers, a team that  feature a number of familiar names, including QBs Matt Grothe and Brooks Bollinger and RBs Tatum Bell, Dominic Rhodes, and Aveion Cason. The UFL season starts the weekend of September 18. Good tickets likely still available.

Darnell Stapelton, two years removed from starting for the Super Bowl champions? Wow, that line was even worse than i thought.

Stapleton wasn't cut because he's bad. He's in the UFL because he suffered a fairly catastrophic injury (for a lineman) and nobody believes he's recovered enough to play.

I wonder what team Willie Parker will sign with when the Redskins cut him.

Holy crap... Duante Culpepper plays for Sacramento. And people were actually upset when the Steelers passed him over for Leftwich.
