Ben Roethlisberger has always had size on his side, but he's never struck me as a real workout guru. However, the QB has had a lot of time to pass over the last few months, and it sounds as if most of it was spent in the weight room.
The new, improved, media-friendly Roethlisberger chatted with Seibel and Starkey about his interesting offseason workout regimen, which has him in "the best shape of his career". Other topics in the conversation included his expectations for the preseason, the Steelers' current batch of receivers, the loss of Santonio Holmes, the Hall of Fame, and the reception he's received from the public.
But back to that workout routine and the yoga he's doing with his mom, who's an instructor:
"Just working out a lot, six days a week, taking one day off and doing yoga during that day off. I just wanted to be able to come out here and be in the best shape and make sure when I do come back I'll be in the best shape and not miss a beat."
Much like MMA training, yoga seems to be one of the new workout trends for NFL players. The Giants had some well-publicized devotees on their team last season, and if it helps #7 stay in better shape this year, I expect the Steelers to have a similar interest sweep through their locker room in the near future.
