STEELERS NAB WR EMMANUEL SANDERS IN ROUND 3

WR EMMANUEL SANDERS
5'11", 186 LBS
SMU
COLLEGE COACH: JUNE JONES

The Steelers went skill position in round three, snagging WR Emmanuel Sanders out of SMU. Sanders was one of the last players to visit the team and is projected as a 3rd/slot receiver.

Sanders had a huge 2009 season, with 98 receptions for 1,339 yards and seven touchdowns. He had an excellent Senior Bowl week and combine, where he ran a 4.4 in the 40. Scouting reports say he has a tendency to sometimes try to make plays happen before the catch, resulting in a loss of concentration on catchable balls. But on the surface, he looks like a decent prospect who will provide some depth needed at the position with the dismissal of Santonio Holmes.

Notes:
-SMU's career leader in receptions, touchdown catches and yards
-Suspended last two games of the 2008 season for multiple rule team violations.
-2005 honorable mention Freshman All-American at both wide receiver and kick returner by The Sporting News
-Sociology major at SMU
-Chose SMU over Kansas, Houston, Baylor and TCU
-Four-sport letterman - football, baseball, basketball, and track in high school

Should have taken Tate in second.

Should have taken Owusu-Ansah in the third round. He takes care of needed depth in the secondary and as a kick returner.

Not that any of us really know too much about him, but I've got a bad "Troy Edwards" feeling about this one. They both had eerily similar physical dimensions, production numbers, level of competition and offensive schemes while in college. But, at least Sanders wasn't a first-rounder. We'll see, I guess.

Yeah, I'm with the first couple posters on this one. I wanted Sean Lee, Pat Angerer, or Golden Tate in rd 2. Then they could've taken this guy or that Worilds guy in rd 3. Kiper said he was a projected 3rd or 4th rounder.

I guess the Steelers have more optimism than I do. Here I thought they needed immediate help at a ton of places (ILB, CB, RB, WR, OL, DL) and they go and take a backup outside linebacker who won't play for two years in round 2.

It has officially been confirmed: The Steelers still think that Limas Sweed sucks.

Yeesh! That's a red flag! Don't worry though stiller fans, Limas Sweed is gonna step up and bump this guy off the depth chart.
