PITT BLUE-GOLD GAME TO BE COVERED BY NFL NETWORK

On Saturday, the Pitt Panthers officially put a wrap on spring ball with the annual Blue-Gold Game, to be held at Heinz Field.

The game will wrap up a day devoted to Pitt football, which also includes with a free On-Field Kid's Clinic and "Chalk Talk" with The Wannstache and staff from 12:30-1:30. The Blue-Gold game then takes center stage at 2:00, and for those of you who can't be there in person, it will be broadcast live on Pittsburgh's CW and the NFL Network. Pitt uses a special scoring system for the game, and you can see that here.

This year's contest concludes a spring with some lingering questions along the offensive line, where senior Alex Karabin has some size limitations but has not been pushed by anyone else, and at the right guard spot, where neither Greg Gaskins nor Ryan Turnley has taken a firm hold on the job. There are also some depth questions along the offensive and defensive lines, and the third linebacker spot and second corner slot have yet to be set.

That being said, the Panthers bring back two quarterbacks who should be able to win games, a Heisman candidate at running back, elite pass-catchers, two All-American candidates on the D-line, and improved corners. In addition to those strengths, the PG's Paul Zeise cited several players as having emerged this spring, including CB Antwuan Reed, TE Mike Cruz, DT Tyrone Ezell, LB Tristan Roberts and WR Greg Cross, who could be a jack-of-all-trades "Slash" type player. Add that in with a coaching staff that it suddenly among the most stable in the conference, and you have the recipe for a potential Big East Championship. As Zeise said, the presence of the NFLN cameras will force the game to be of the vanilla variety, but it should nonetheless be interesting to get our first televised glimpse of the '10 Panthers.

You Pitt people throw "Heisman Trophy Candidate" around so tocantly it loses its meaning.

Dion Lewis is good, but the only folks calling him Heisman material are asswipes like Rod Gilmore looking for a soundbite on Friday night (which is when Pitt plays...which is when no one is watching).

Heisman may be a bit ambitious, but I don't think that becoming a Doak Walker finalist and All-American are unrealistic goals for Dion.

Shonn Greene, Donald Brown, and Toby Gerhart put up some impressive numbers in recent years at less sexy schools than the the likes of USC, Notre Dame, or Florida, and all three of those guys either won or were finalists for the Doak Walker.

Hopefully Lewis can repeat what he did this past season.

As for Adam: when are you going to get the idea that Pitt is king on this site and that you are a troll?

Who cares about the "Best QB or running back who plays for the #1 ranked school" award?

We get the pleasure today of getting a sneak peak at the future at quarterback:

Santino Sunseri. Aka The man with the most Italian name in the history of mankind.

Awww Nick, I don't worry about Heisman Trophies. I worry about team wins. But if I did (like you apparantly) I'd tell you that a Big East running back doesn't have a chance in hell because everyone knows Big East defenses blow. Ask RichRod.

And whoever called me a troll, I root for the same Pittsburgh teams you do. I just root for another local college team.

Maybe you do, but you never come around unless it's to bash the local college team in favor of a non-local college that's 3 1/2 hours away.

Speaking of trolls I sent a level 38 two headed mountain troll after Burgh08, so he has that going for him, which is nice.

Thankfully the troll was wearing an old "NIT Champs" T-Shirt, which I spotted a mile away.

If it's all about 'team wins', I guess it gets pretty lonely there when football ends.

Why don't you guys make this interesting? If Lewis wins the Heisman, Adam never posts again. If he doesn't......I don't know, come up with something.

Please. Adam's posts are enjoyed by most folks. He is like the kid passing the hat at little league games, and has no clue why he was picked.

I prefer to put a dollar in the cap, see him enjoy his own little world, say a prayer he isn't related to me, and wait for the next game to see him pass by.
