NO CHARGES TO BE FILED AGAINST ROETHLISBERGER

The Steelers are officially out of the woods (at least from a legal point of view) today, as it was announced at a 2 p.m. news conference by Ocmulgee (Ga.) Judicial Circuit D.A. Fred Bright that Ben Roethlisberger will not be charged for sexual assault, saying the alleged victim's claims could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The alleged victim and her family wrote a letter on March 17 stating that she did not want to pursue the matter.

The press conference is ongoing on more information will be posted as it becomes available.

If Goodell suspends him over what are now false accusations I'm going to pissed. Chris Mortensen suggested that he thinks Ben will be suspended.

It looks like Ben will be suspended and I am doubtful he is in the Steelers future plans. This is his last contract in Pittsburgh in other words.

Supposedly Ed Bouchette wrote that the Steeler locker room would be cheering over the departure of Tone and I cannot help but think many players feel the same way about Ben.

Too bad this guy has this label now that both incidents appear to be groundless. I am sure he is a douchebag but he has only been found "guilty" in the court of public opinion.

I honestly don't know how anybody can hear the details of this case and not be sick to their stomach. It's the most disgusting thing I've ever heard.

A bodyguard leading a tipsy drunk coed to a secluded bathroom? Ben slinking in behind her? VAGINAL bleeding and bruising? Semen on her?

What a piece of garbage. If the Steelers really have any sort of morality or sense of right and wrong, they'd rid themselves of him immediately.

Scott,

The lack of charges don't mean that her accusation was false or untrue. The DA simply said there wasn't evidence to convict. If he pressed charges and lost the case, he would open himself up to losing re-election. Remember, our criminal prosecutors are politicians in this country, not professional crime fighters.

He deserves a punch in the gut and a leather-glove slap across the face for being a complete idiot. Third strike and he should be out.

Scott vs. Fighting Scot is becoming an epic rivalry.

I am not sure what in the hell happened down there in Podunk, but Ben is honestly not using the right head.

Do you think this means a check was written to the accuser?

Wow, some people, man. The charges are dropped and all we can say is "well OBVIOUSLY he did it! He got off because he's rich!" It's like it's impossible for anyone to consider in this situation that maybe, just maybe, he's not guilty.

Do you think this means, he didn't do it.

well, there are a lot of undisputed facts that would lead one to think he did something that wasn't right and he paid her off...

these things include giving an underage girl alcohol and then locking yourself in the bathroom while your peeps block the door...

so yeah, i think this says he's guilty more than an indictment would have...

If the players want to win, and thats why they play the game, they should be cheering the non-conviction of Ben. There is her story then his story and then the real story. Not saying Ben is a good guy but being a season tix holder, I dont want to watch anything less than Ben Roethlisberger on the field!

@okel dokel - doesn't 'this' contract still have 7 yrs remaining? I recall that being the intent of 'this' contract at the time. So that Large Benjamin could retire a steeler. No matter whether he retires a steeler or gets traded tonite, i agree with you sir. This will be his last contract with the 'lers.

@corey&clint pitts - The DA also said that the letter was going to be made public... maybe we should find out what it says first? And i'm sure, regardless of the letter's content, it will confirm both of your beliefs.

Anyways, I think he should be acquitted of all charges. I mean, if OJ can get away with murder, Sonny should be able to have his kid, right?

It wasn't Ben's job to card the girls coming in the door so its not his fault she was underage. Having his friends guard the door obviously looks bad, but maybe he just didn't want someone to bust in and take a sex pic of 'The Steeler's QB', Deadspin would have put that pic up in a second.

Like Homerun said, I guess we'll find out when the letter is made public.

Also, I would like to see him suspended 2 games because to be honest, he can't hold up during a 16 game season, maybe he'll last a little longer in a 14 game season.

You "got off" on a technicality. You'll always be a rapist to me. When I want to watch criminals, I'll watch "Cops" instead of the NFL.

Technicality? "Not able to be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt" isn't a technicality, it's the foundation of our legal system.

the foundation of our legal system is money....

Ben Roethlisberger is a great player, but he really needs to be more careful with his off-field behavior. This latest incident has caused a great deal of embarrassment to the Steelers organization and the NFL, and he really needs to work hard to regain the respect of fans. Even though he wasn’t charged with anything, I think commissioner Goodell needs to suspend him for a game or two in order to ensure that he won’t exercise poor judgment ever again.

My question is how can 21% of people who voted say nothing will happen??? You're joking if you think he doesn't get AT LEAST 2 games.. My bet,He gets 2 games from Uncle Rodger..Then the Steelers give him yet another game to "think about what he has done" The only thing that saved his ass was he is a franchise QB..Otherwise Tone would have company...
