A BIG DAY

What happens in the next 24 hours will shape the Steelers for a very long time. Gut instinct? I think they hold on to Ben Roethlisberger, go the therapy/counseling/"he needs help" angle, and try to tackle the very tall task of mending fences with fans and teammates.

It's pretty clear that they're not going to get Sam Bradford in the draft, and I don't know if Jimmy Clausen, Tim Tebow, or Colt McCoy would be an adequate answer at QB. The Raiders are already out, as are the Rams, Bills, and Jaguars. So the market is shrinking, and when that happens, so does a player's value.

A look at the rest of the top 10 has the Lions (who just took Matt Stafford), Bucs (Josh Freeman), Redskins (McNabb), Chiefs (Cassel), Browns (Delhomme), and Seahawks, who just paid a lot of money to a very raw Charlie Whitehurst.

So on the Roethlisberger front, it's a complete crapshoot as to what will happen. People are emotional right now, and I'm not 100% sure that's the right time to make a franchise-altering move (again, with the qualifier that we probably don't know all the details). You want drama? Today is full of it.

Trade or no trade, the Steelers hold the #18 pick in the draft, and many people seem to think that choice will be Maurkice Pouncey, a 6'5", 312-pound center from the University of Florida. They could also go corner, defensive line, or receiver - and with all the picks they have, I guarantee that they will be trading up at least once or twice. I just pray they don't take Dez Bryant. If you wonder why, just Google him and you'll find more than enough reasons outside of his obvious talent.

Look how fat he's got since that draft day picture. If that's not evidence that he needs to cut booze from his life, I don't know what is.

And the rapey stuff too, I guess.

The Raiders are out now, but I think they will be back in. At the end of the day I think offers will be made for Ben, but I think common sense will prevail and we will hold on to him.

If the Steelers don't trade Ben, and Jimmy falls to 18, I think all hell will break loose in the draft room.

Jimmy Clausen is another headcase that we should be steering clear of.

Did anybody here see Mongo snow that little kid in Montreal last night? Unreal!

Trading Ben would be a huge mistake! Ask Mark Madden pointed out yesterday, there are very few QBs currently in the NFL that have won 2 Super Bowls. Ben & some guy for the Patriots.

Don't even give me that Dennis Dixon stuff! And Jimmy Clausen AINT Ben Roethlisberger & he never will be.

mark madden is an idiot.

Ben could only be accurately called a QB with one SB win and two rings, because I recall winning SB XL despite Ben rather than thanks to him. 22.6 passer rating ringing any bells?
