SANTONIO HOLMES UPDATE

Here's the latest as of about 12:30 this afternoon...

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said the team was looking into the allegations.

"We just found out today. We're gathering information and have no further comment at this time," he said. [PG]

Orlando Police Dept. spokesperson Barbara Jones told Pro Football Talk that a formal police report "has not been completed in the system," which strongly implies that a report is coming.

Florio also learned that Holmes will contend that, while he was indeed present at the time of the incident, another person threw the drink at Mills. [PFT]

"Someone Somewhere" made an astute observation in the comment section of a prior post on MH that really makes me think: Holmes' alleged incident occurred on March 7; on March 8, Steelers went on their wide receiver spending spree, inking Antwaan Randle-El and Arnaz Battle to separate deals when it looked like they were virtually set at the position. Verrrry interesting.

And as for Santonio Holmes himself, he's been very active today on Twitter.

"My life is ur entertainment," he said a little after noon today.

Might be time to change the name of the blog to reflect all the real Pittsburgh sports drama...

Well, I guess the plus side of all this is that Rachel Nichols is spending a lot of time reporting on the Steelers. I do love me the gingers.

Just a guess, but that's probably not the Steelers' Aaron Smith on 'Tone's twitter page.

In other news, Longest Yard II: Rockin' the Steel City will be the best movie filmed in Western PA since Slap Shot.

Nutz!! I had James Harrison as the next Steeler accused in our office's "Steeler Offseason Criminal" pool.

Maybe Don should actually have a contest on here to see is somebody can correctly predict which Steeler is next to tangle with Johnny Law and what the nature of the crime would be.

My pick: Ike Taylor- Wreckless Driving- causes a 3 car pile up because the other driver couldn't see him.

Randle El DID say he was brought in to be the number 3 receiver. If Holmes gets suspended for this, that might be true. We might look at a wide receiver depth chart of Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, Antwaan Randle El.
