ELIJAH FIELDS HEADED TO CAL U

There's lots of buzz this morning that former Pitt Panther Elijah Fields and his infamous Twitter photo page will be headed to the California University of PA to play for Coach John Luckhardt. Frankly, the news should surprise no one; it was widely speculated that Cal would be the ultimate destination for the talented but troubled safety/linebacker, as the D-II program has been home to a number of D-I/FBS transfers.

Last season, the Vulcans reached the D-II national semifinals, where they eventually fell to #2 NW Missouri State. Cal has advanced to the semifinals in each of the last three years with the previous two semifinal losses coming against the eventual National Champion. So adding a player like Fields will be putting talent on top of more talent.

Their 2009 team, which finished seventh in the final poll, featured six All-Americans including Senior WR AJ Jackson (Lehigh Acres, FL), senior CB Terrence Johnson (Woodland Hills), senior DL Willie Walker (Aliquippa), junior OL Dan Jordan (Tionesta, PA), LB Dontey Brown (McKeesport/Penn State) and OL Cha’Mar Jones (Aliquippa).

Cal's Coach Luckhardt has done nothing but win in his coaching career; at Washington and Jefferson, he compiled a 137-37-2 record, with 13 Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) titles and two appearances in the Stagg Bowl. At California, he has already amassed a 68-28 record in eight seasons, with two NCAA Division II Regional Coach of the Year awards. If Fields would go anywhere to rehab his image and game given his options, Cal and Luckhardt would be the logical destination.
