TODAY'S HEADLINES

An important win for the city of Pittsburgh: Our city has been in the dumps for the last week. Snow, power outages, snow, unplowed streets, snow...it goes on and on. So the Penguins did their best to lift the city's spirits last night with a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders at the appropriately-named Igloo.

This one was all about Chris Kunitz, who scored two goals (his first since December 29), and Marc-Andre Fleury, who stopped 37 of 38 in one of his final tune-ups before the Olympics. And there was a pretty spirited bout between Matt Martin and Tyler Kennedy as well:

Tomas Plekanec preserves the legacy of the '92-93 Pens: Plekanec's goal at 4:52 of OT lifted the Montreal Canadiens to a 6-5 win over the Washington Capitals, ending the Caps' winning streak at 14. And once again it's proven that where the Caps are good, the Pens are better.

MAF's new mask: The Pens have additional shots of this on their official Facebook page as well. As long as it keeps his face from getting hit by pucks, I'm all for it.

The Rock rocks a Steeler hat: The former Miami Hurricane and current Tooth Fairy was caught wearing a Steeler lid the other day, joining Kevin Durant in the "not jumping off the Steeler bandwagon" category. [TMZ.com]

The doppelganger of PPG Place...is apparently in Seoul, and it's Immanuel Methodist Church, which makes no acknowledgment of the similarity. Hey, you know what they say about imitation. [Brian in Jeollanam-do]

Steelers make a hire: The team needed to find a replacement for the departed Doug Whaley, and they did that yesterday, hiring Brandon Hunt as the team’s pro scouting coordinator.

A Pine-Richland High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania grad, Hunt interned with the Steelers in 2005 and 2006 in the player personnel department, and most recently worked as a scout for the Houston Texans. [Beaver County Times]

I think that the Rock lived in Pennsylvania before he went to UM. I believe it's where he played his high school football.

I could've just done this before my last post, but anyways, his Wikipedia page says he played hs football in Bethlehem, PA. I'm pretty sure that's Eagles country though.

Some people just wear a team's hat for fashion reasons and not cause they're a fan. He and Durant might not be Steeler fans at all.

I had this same discussion with my Dad years ago regarding why some rapper or something was wearing a Pirates hat on TV.

I explained to him that not everybody is like most of us here in the Burgh and wear only the gear for the team for whom your allegiances lie.
