TODAY'S HEADLINES

Pittsburgh preparing for end of the world: Actually, it's just some snow. I've heard anywhere from 4-12 inches, but the news has people preparing as if it were 100 inches (don't even try going to the grocery store after a report like this). Guess we'll just have to settle for staying home and watching the Super Bowl this weekend. [WPXI]

Dermontti Dawson, Hall of Famer? That's what we could potentially hear this weekend, as the 2010 inductees will be announced on Saturday. Only four centers are in the Hall, and this will be a tough year considering some locks in the class (Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, etc.), but one of these times, he's going to get the call.

Dick LeBeau is also up for induction through the seniors list, and he's another member of the Steeler family who will eventually end up in Canton for his contributions to the game. [Trib]

Dallas wants Letang or Goligoski from Pens: At least that's what Bob Pompeani says on his Twitter page. That certainly sounds like a rumor to me. [Bob Pompeani Twitter]

Bettis thinks Steelers should run more: Not surprising at all. But he does realize that the team that's finished last in the NFL in rushing has made it to the Super Bowl the last two seasons, doesn't he?

I said it before, and I'll say it again: the league's rules are set up to help the passing game. You can't touch QBs and you can't touch receivers. The league wants Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, and Drew Brees playing late into the postseason, because that's what gets people to tune in. No one's watching Curtis Painter or Tarvaris Jackson. The teams that get this (Colts, Saints, Steelers, Cardinals, etc) are going to Super Bowls. The two top rushers in the league this year (Chris Johnson and Steven Jackson) play on teams with awful passing games and are watching the playoffs at home. This is not a coincidence. [PG]

The fake K-Mart employee: A 34-year-old Emsworth man was caught by police at the Coraopolis K-Mart pretending to be an employee. Unfortunately, it wasn't some sort of K-Mart fantasy camp; he was actually stealing merchandise to support a drug habit. [PG]

Posehn in the Burgh: You all know comedian Brian Posehn; he's been in a bunch of movies and is best known as Kevin, the nerdy mail clerk on Just Shoot Me.

He'll be in the Burgh this weekend, appearing at the Improv at 8 and 10 PM Friday and 7 and 9 PM on Saturday. Considering the pending quadruple blizzard today in Pittsburgh, he might want to re-schedule.

Info on Pitt Backyard Run: This comes from a reader named Dan:

"I'm a junior at the University of Pittsburgh and am the Chairman of this years Backyard Run that takes place before the Backyard Brawl. We do this event to raise funds for cystic fibrosis. Here are some links about last years event and we will have a website up here in the next few days about next years event. Our goal is $10,000 dollars. HAIL TO PITT!"

Can't believe this didn't make the news update, but the Atlantic Division just a hell of a lot tougher for the Pens to win with New Jersey bringing in Kovalchuk. Adding a bona fide sniper to that line-up is scary.

What does that matter since Ted Leonsis has officially declared that the Capitals have arrived and for all Caps fans to savor their glory?

Whats worse is that i am not fabricating that statement, at all.

Brian Posehn is one of the funniest people on the planet. Snow be damned, find a way to get to the Improv this weekend.

Yeah,Posehn!...Metal rules!!!

Hmmm, seems the link to Pompous-Annie's twitter page is dead. I guess the truth will never be known.

Yeah, we're getting even more snow out east according to reports. I guess I'll have to up my hoarding of bread and milk to at least 4 weeks worth now. Of course that won't stop me from ordering a pizza and some wings tomorrow, but just in case.

I think that Jerome bettis simply needs to go away. The days of classic Steelers football (smashmouth running game and defense) have come and gone. Well, maybe the defense still has that mentality until the fourth quarter comes around, but they haven't ran the ball even decently in at least three years. Steelers football now is just winning football games.

If you guys are fans of Posehn and haven't seen "The Comedians of Comedy" you need to check it out. Patton Oswalt and Zach Galifianakis were also tremendous in that documentary.
