ROBERT MORRIS UPSETS #1 RANKED MIAMI (OH)

Do you believe in miracles? After 1980, the answer should always be yes. But last night, we were reminded that David can sometimes knock off Goliath as Robert Morris, who entered the game with a 3-12-3 record, knocked off #1-ranked Miami, Ohio (13-2-5) at the Igloo.

The teams were a part of the fourth annual Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase, an event that was nearly canceled yesterday because of a crane malfunction at the arena.

RMU goalie Brooks Ostergard stopped 39 shots, and J.C. Velasquez and Stefan Salituro scored third period goals en route to a 3-1 victory over the top-ranked RedHawks. The Colonials feature seven Pittsburgh-bred players, with four (D Andrew Blazek/Pittsburgh, D Denny Urban/Pittsburgh, winger Ron Cramer/New Wilmington, and winger Furman South/Sewickley) in the starting lineup.

This was RMU's first win in four Showcase games, and an important victory in the constant battle to keep local talent in Pittsburgh. It's not just Wanny who struggles with that issue. But nonetheless, last night was obviously a huge night for the RMU program, so congrats to the Colonials and to the Penguins for putting on what was described by all as a first class event - crane problems aside.
