CHARLIE BATCH OUT 6 WEEKS

Let's hope Big Ben's noggin is OK, because Plan B will be unavailable for the next six weeks, according to tireless ESPN reporter Adam Schefter. Charlie Batch, who came in relief of the injured Ben Roethlisberger in overtime and took just a few snaps, apparently suffered a wrist injury that will require surgery.

Next in line would be Dennis Dixon, who has thrown one pass in an NFL game. Sounds to me like there could be an audition of veteran quarterbacks in the Steel City this week. All of a sudden, with injuries to Roethlisberger, Batch, Troy Polamalu and Aaron Smith, this is starting to resemble the situation facing another defending champion in town.

Dont' be suprised if Ben's head injury is now diagnosed as not that serious and he is available to play on Sunday.

@coreywhite,

Jason Whitlock is shocked and offended that you would leave Jeff George off that list.

Outside of posssibly Garcia, Jeff George would be a massive improvement over anyone on that list. I'm speaking of him as a player of course, not a human being.

Wow, today just went from bad to worse! Does Neil O'Donnell or Vinny Testaverde still want to play? Maybe we could pick up knute rockne? (He's not that much older than jeff george) As long as we're offering up Tyler F'n Palko... why not Rod Rutherford? As a PSU alum, I know for d*mn sure that zack mills & anthony morelli aren't busy!!

I thought jeff garcia got picked up? Isn't he in Oakland or something? Time to raid the UFL for a QB3... J.P. Losman anyone? Haha, i'd rather put big snack in at QB than any of the available scrubs.

I wonder how the NFL's new concussion policy will affect Ben's availability. Might not be as simple as "he appeared lucid" after the game.

And I'd prefer to have Dixon take snaps than anyone on that QB list.

Jeff Garcia is good enough as a stop gap...he has had success coming in for multiple starters that got hurt mid-season circa Mcnabb and Chris Simms so he is a quick learner. As far as the rest, we are screwed if Garcia is not available..last I heard Oakland cut him and he was available

Unless we're going to run the wildcat, I'd rather have Rudy Ruettiger take snaps than Dixon. I honestly don't know why he was even drafted except to fulfill some bizarre wet dream Arians has.

Well... this is one way to get the offense from attempting 40 passes a game.

What a coincidence!!!! Charlie Batch is out for 4-6 weeks, and shortly thereafter, as reported at 4:14 on the PG website, the Steelers announce that "Ben appears to be fine" and that team officials are confident he will play on Sunday. What a coincidence!! I'm sure the team would never rush Ben back from a concussion sooner than they should. Well, other than the Jacksonville game back in 2006, right?

I guess Batch can now devote 100% of his time to what he does best...mentor the region's finest amateur athletes. Has he counseled Pryor on the nuances of the wide receiver position?
