BROOKS ORPIK OUT 2 WEEKS

It's raining and pouring right now for the Pittsburgh Penguins, as it was announced today that defenseman Brooks Orpik will miss two weeks with the mysterious "lower body" injury. I'm sure I speak on behalf of Penguin fans everywhere when I wish him a speedy recovery.

As far as the other injured Flightless Birds, forwards Tyler Kennedy and Evgeni Malkin remain day-to-day with their respective boo-boos, while Max Talbot is still about 10 days away from making his 2009-10 debut. Sergei Gonchar is donning a non-contact jersey in practice and should be out until late November-early December. Kris Letang was injured on November 7 and is expected to miss two weeks, putting his return sometime around November 21.

Tonight, the Pens are out to avenge an earlier 4-1 loss against the New Jersey Devils at Mellon Arena. Ben Lovejoy will replace Orpik in the lineup. Let's hope for a victory - and for the team to get through a game healthy for a change.

I'm actually not too bothered by injuries like this. After playing over 200 games in the past 2 seasons, I was worried the Penguins would be out of energy once they got late in the playoffs this season.

As long as these injuries aren't serious and don't hamper them all season long, I don't mind them at all. They will make it tough to stay as the #1 seed but as long as we can stay top 4 in the East, I'll feel pretty good.
