NEWS AND NOTES

--January Jones of Mad Men reveals her Halloween costume for 2009: the one and only Troy Polamalu. "I'll get the wig. Put on some bronzer. And I'll just cross myself all night," she says, mulling it over. [Deadspin]

--Here's a list of the 10 worst owners in sports...and the Pirates' ownership group is not mentioned. Is that good news for the Pirates, bad news for the state of sports in general (that there are at least 10 franchises run worse), or just a list with a major hole? [Real Clear Sports]

--Guess whose quote ended up smack dab in the middle of the Rush Limbaugh controversy? How about James Farrior? [Newsbusters.org]

--Dejuan Blair's stellar preseason continues: 26 minutes, 28 points, 11-for-13 shooting vs. the Miami Heat. [ESPN.com]

--Joe Starkey says the NFL's gone overboard with their protection of QBs. I don't see what's so hard to figure. Don't you think business is better for the league when Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Tom Brady are upright, or would Jim Sorgi, Charlie Batch, and Brian Hoyer create more interest? The QBs are the stars, the league is protecting their top assets. Adjust your hits accordingly, defense. [Trib]

--Was a Penguins fan in charge of headline writing at ESPN.com? That would be the only logical explanation for this header. [Probably Bad News]

--Here's 100 reasons why the PA budget crisis has lasted 100 days. And being that we're talking about PA, sports predictably rears its head. [Pennlive.com]

--Brady Quinn's house is officially up for sale. Let the trade speculation begin. [ESPN AFC North Blog]

--Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu? This video tries to break the tie. [YouTube]

Those "10 Worst Owners/Management" lists never cease to amaze me. A solid argument can be made for everyone appering on there, sure, but let's get one thing straight: don't ever question their motives. Go ahead and call them incompetent, question their decision making all you want, but don't EVER question their desire to win.

Then, you have the Pirates...

I don't get the Detroit header. What's so funny? I've always figured those Swedish ginger freaks were cooking estrogen on a bent spoon anyway. Cheers to them for finally coming out of the closet.

I think most people outside of Pittsburgh don't consider the Pirates a professional sports team.
