NFL Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison made headlines from coast to coast this weekend with his bizarre reasoning for skipping this Thursday's team visit to the White House. In case you missed it, here's the head-scratching quote:
"This is how I feel -- if you want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, invite us when we don't win the Super Bowl. As far as I'm concerned, he [Obama] would've invited Arizona if they had won," said Harrison.

Today, the real reason was revealed as to why the baddest dude on the planet is skipping the prestigious gathering: a fear of flying. As per Ed Bouchette:
A well-placed source, however, later revealed the real reason for Harrison's reluctance to make the trip: He has a fear of flying and is a "wreck" whenever he must take team flights.

Harrison wondered why his decision became such a hot topic, yet completely went under the radar when he missed the team's visit in 2006. Heroically going third person, Harrison said, "Hey, James ain't changed. I guess my profile did but I didn't change. I'm not going because I don't want to go.''

While it's true that James ain't changed, his notoriety to that point in 2006 was mostly derived from his bodyslam of a Cleveland Browns fan during a December, 2005 game, and not his NFL achievements. Whether he likes it or not (and I think it's safe to say he doesn't), people care about what James Harrison does away from the game. He's a high-profile guy and one of the most popular players on arguably the league's most popular team. When he gives a strange quote regarding what is traditionally a big event, it's going to be talked about.

"What happens when the Steelers get picked to play in Europe?"
Horse tranquilizers.
Didn't he play in Europe enough already? Maybe he took boats, or swam.
What a lame excuse, but oh well, he can do as he pleases.
B.A. indeed...
